guys, i couldnt help it, i had to do it. hobby lobby advertised the 1/2 off plastic models sale this week and i had to rescue these kits from that horrible place!!! i melted my plastic visa card down while shooting at these kits, but it was worth it!! visa will send me another i’m sure of it. they’ll be proud that i rescued these poor kits!! these displaced refugees have a home now, so dont worry. and, i got them all for under a 100 bucks too!!! i’m stoked to say the least. and yes, the BAMA cap in the photo below is there intentionally!! ROOOLLLLL TIDE ROLL!!! later.
imagine Floyd’s tune “all in all your just a…nother brick in the wall”.LOL
Saltydog,
May I compliment you on your finds, admire the choice of kits you have there (especially the a/c avenger)[;)]
I just recently got turned on to our local hobby lobby here too, by the Mrs.! Be it ever so humble maybe one whole isle for kits, the selection was’nt too bad at all! Very funny how you put it too. Consider this, I can now take the wife to a store we can mutually enjoy to browse around in. I have my kit isle, and she can get all her potporruri junk too!
Am I on to something here?[:D]
mike, i afraid not, i’ve never seen a tamiya P-47 in hobby lobby. every store i’ve been in has the same basic kits. this is the one i spoke that was off the beaten track so to speak, and i could tell that the stock pile had dwindled a touch from the last trip there, so i’m glad i went today. sorry. they had 3 more accurate miniatures there today, but i told myself that i was gonna stay around a hundred bucks max. i did it, but it was bitter sweet to say the least. i wanted to pick up the academy F-14A, academy super cobra, academy huey hog gunship, and the curtiss hawk by accurate miniatures as well but i knew i was approaching my cieling. that accurate minaiture kit is way beyond my expectations my friend!! a very nice kit that i will for sure take my time on and try to do it some justice. later.
Chris, very nice selection of kits at a very nice price. Course by the time you get all the AM resin, PE & decals you’ll blow another $200, but hey that’s fun & life is short. Looking forward to seeing them built up over the next 2 or 3 weeks.
I envy you more than you will ever know. After coming to NYC from Texas I thought I would be in hobby shop heaven. I mean, the natives claim this is the center of the civilized universe. There is not ONE hobby shop worthy of the name that caters to scale modelers. There is not one to my name that sells aftermarkets parts. There is one in Manhattan with a modest selection of decal sheets. However – no names, of course – the owner is known by every modeler in the city as a surly loner who is much like Comic Book Guy in the Simpsons. The markup from wholesale ranges from 150 to 300 percent. Unfortunately, every brand and color of model paint worth having can be bought here and myself and other modelers agree, we go there only when desperate. So count yourselves lucky out there. Boy, I miss the old neighborhood hobby shop.
Wow heck of a haul you made there… I’m going to have to get to the Hobby Lobby and pick a few up myself. I try to take the opportunity to build up my kit stash when they have their sale.
I just got back, Picked up 5 kits that I have been looking at for a while but never pulled the trigger because of $. Thanks for letting me know about the sale because I would have surly missed it other wise. Hook em Horns!!
Nice rescue job saltydog ! I picked up a kit and started towards the checkout.
Something caught my eye on the top shelf. It was Academy’s 1/32 F/A- 18c with the
5 new decal options, man thats one big and heavy box . Sure was tempting at that
price but I’ m saving for a couple of X planes. Look forward to pictures of your builds.
Fuzzy
They’re some very nice kits you’ve got there. I wish I could find bargains like that. At my LHS I would pay nearly $100 for the 3 in the bottom row alone (but I do live in australia).
