Just picked this up and did not realize directions were in Japanese, silly me.

I searched the camouflage site and it says in 43 and 45 it wasd in MS22. I am porbably going to do that rather than 32. However, I am confused about the deck. I assume it is a wood deck. Is it stain or deck blue? Lastly, what is closest Tamiya acrylic or modelmaster to Navy Blue-5N and Haze grey 5H?

Thanks,

Wooden deck was to be stained 20-B Weather Deck Blue. Horizontal steel surfaces were painted the same color.

In acrylics, your out of the bottle choice is ModelMaster AcrylII Marine line of colors. They are accurately matched to the Snyder & Short paint chips. There are no equivalent matches in either Tamiya or the MM Acrylic aircraft/armor lines. PollyScale’s 20-B and 5-N are pretty close, but to my eye their 5-H is a bit too lavender. (Remember that USN WWII colors were based on a purple/blue scheme)

In enamels, your only out of the bottle choice is the White Ensign Colourcoat line of paints

Thank you for the response. That is very helpful. Another question. When you look down on a battleship, as say an enemy aircraft. I understand the horizontal surfaces are deck blue. However, what are the tops of the large and small guns. How about the barrel of the guns?

The term ‘horizontal surfaces’ which I used is used to describe all decks and turret/gun house tops. They should be painted deck blue also. The tops of round surfaces (i.e. the upper half) should also be painted blue. means all hotizontal surfaces.

However, you should always check photo references for your specific subject.
