I am kind of surprised this wasn’t posted here already but FSM will be attending Wonderfest this year! So those attending bring your work to be photographed and come talk to your FSM editor. I know I am looking forward to it!

Yep, I’ll be there, and I’ll be photographing models for FineScale Modeler and/or Great Scale Modeling. Even if you don’t bring a model, make sure to stop by and say hello!

Matt, any idea if you’ll be able to attend SciFi U on Friday? Even if it’s just the last half?
If Wonderfest is to Sci-Fi specific for and FSM issue, what about a specialty issue if Sci Fi that includes Wonderfest pictures (like your issues of Great World War II Modeling)?
Since FSM has covered other specialty modeling events, it should have been just fine for them to cover WonderFest in a page or two of an issue. Yet another example of the bias against SciFi that we’ve had to put up with in The Hobby.

What I was on about, however, is the bias against SciFi modelers in general from the majority of other scale modelers. I’m pretty lucky in that the group here - Central Arkansas Scale Modelers (not a for-profit site or group, BTW) - is pretty open-minded and don’t mind seeing what the few of us in the club who build SciFi have to offer. When I was stationed in New Mexico, the club there in Alamogordo was almost all AMS laden Rivet Counters and Tread Heads. I went to three or four meetings and finally gave up, as you could hear the drool running out of mouths and the cockroaches running between the walls when I was talking about my models. ‘Course, when the fellow Rivet Counters & Tread Heads were up there talkin’ there was rapt attention from all.
The CASM group, tho, they’re all great. Some might be feigning interest, but they at least make an attempt. I feel that there’s a LOT to learn from each other in this hobby. I take away something from almost every meeting I attend, be it wisdom and knowledge imparted from Tread Heads, Rivet Counters, Figure Folks or Car Guys. They realize that there’s something to pass on from us SciFi Freaks, too. Heck, a lot of them had never dealt w/resin kits before I gave a session on working with resin. A couple of fellas came up to me afterward and ask if I had any thoughts on how to make resin better bond to styrene 'cause there were several conversion kits for (fill in the blank) kits and they’d been intimidated by them for a long time.
Er… Anyhow, what I was getting at was the general bias against SciFi from most other modelers out there. Yes, I definitely recognize that FSM is angling towards a bit more SciFi content and appreciate it.
Specifically, tho, I was referring to the lack of coverage of WonderFest by FineScaleModeler, yet umpteen different specialty modeling events were covered. I think it was WF '04 or WF '05 that was mentioned in an issue of FSM as “upcoming coverage in the next issue”. Yet that coverage never materialized.
If that changes, I’m more than happy for FSM and the (hopefully) positive impact it will have on the rest of the folks in The Hobby.
