FSM on CD? What do you think?

I recently sent an email to the editor concerning backissues of FSM. Some magazines, such as National Geographic, offer all of their backissues on CD for a nominal price. Wouldn’t it be great to have all the FSM magazines available to you on CD for your reference? Would you pay for it? If so, how much?

If this interests you, let me know or maybe even contact the editor via email to tell him.

Thanks,
Jesse

I would if it was good value. Not sure about the price I’d pay. Depends on what was included on the CD (how many issues per CD, if the articles were indexed and cross referenced, etc.)

Well I would hope they would include of the issues probably in scanned in form so you would have to wade them. That’s how National Geographic did it. But the also included a index as a seperate file to find what you’re looking for.

Thats a great idea and I would pay for CD’s, but the only problem with that is your can burn CD’s and that would mean less profit (same deal with napster and music). I don’t want to make FSM sound like one big money hungry company because it’s not, but if any company in general wants to have a great product and wants to get profits from it their best off making a product that can’t be easily coppyed or shared. It is a good idea, but I feel it would just bring about one huge head ache for FSM. Thats my theory on that…
But yes, if FSM did that, I would buy the FSM copy that couldn’t be shreded or faded or get wet and ruined, it would all be on the computer, so it would last longer than paper.

Not to mention taking up a heck of a lot less shelf space. [:)]

M.

that is a very convienient and space saving idea, the extra money would be well worth i think. its alot easier to ruin and lose a magazine than saving it on a computer cd, at least i think so

i think it is a good idea, at least for distributing old OOP issues.
i have been completing a collection of FSM, and am still about 5 issues short.
some of the early issues are hard to find and can get pricey.
but in general, back issues are quite affordable in bulk on ebay, if you are patient.

there is a cd index available for all the issues, and they are supposed to put out quarterly updates. FSM does not sell it, but the company that does advertises it in FSM. if anyone is interested in getting it, i will dig up the link.
(it is printed on my cd, but i am drawing a blank right now)

i recommend it highly, if you have a lot of back issues, you can quickly find all the Panther (or Sherman [:D]) articles, reviews, features.
if you don’t have a lot of back issues, you might find yourself looking for them.
that’s what happened to me.

Actually, I don’t think I’d be very interested. However, it is a good idea, and you are right, many places already offer it. MMIR for example, allows you to buy a CD for $10 and on it you may have any 10 articles, from any of their magazines, provided they are unavailable for sale. Some variance like this might be a good thing. Personally, I like to have the hard-copy in my hands to look at, but that’s just me.
