Too bad there’s not a ‘Like’ button.
This forum being an offshoot of a publication of course part of their objective is going to be to advertise/push subscribing to said publication. Regaurdless of weather you have a subscription already it’s set up to have a pop up window and it’s not really that annoying from my point of view. Just hit the X in the corner like any other pop up ad.
Like most people,I hate pop-up ads.The FSM marketing team seems not to have figured that out.
^THIS^
I back my opinion with my $$$$. And it’s annoying when a site I pay to be on spam’s me wanting to do something I already do.

I agree. That was one of the factors that led me to not renew my subscription when it expired earlier this year. Add to that the frustration of the offers FSM would send me to try to entice me back - if it would only subscribe to the mag, I’d get an electronic subscription for only $10 extra.
If I didn’t want the paper copy of the mag, what makes them think I’d want the electronic one??!! [8o|]
Hi Will,
This complaint has come up a couple of times in the past.
I work at FSM and I get the pop-ups, too. Although we do not charge for use of the website or the Forum, there is a lot of subscriber-only content on the website, which we feel subscribers deserve exclusive access to. We do not charge for use of the Forum. As a business, the website functions as both a repository for information and a marketing tool. The editorial staff has no control over the second function.
I’m sorry to hear that the pop-ups are preventing you from utilizing the site and that they would cause you to end your subscription. I’ll pass along your concerns to our digital marketing team.
Thanks for subscribing and taking the time to write.
Sincerely,
Tim
Thanks Tim

I really don’t care either way. My mouse works quite well and I tend to look at the big picture. If something comes along that I don’t care to see, it’s spam. Very easy.
Ive found that if you bookmark the main forum page you won’t get this pop-up.
[dto:] I go straight to the forums and don’t often look at the main page. If i do, its a simple task of hitting the X.
Exactly! I don’t see why it bothers some people so much that there’s 2 active topics about it at the moment.

What’s the difference between the popup and the little subscription cards stuffed in the middle of the magazine?
Oh jeez. I really hate those things!
There was another thread on this topic, and we asked Aaron and the editorial staff to pass our complaint along to Kalmbach Publishing, if they hadn’t already done so. There is no reason that the website can’t recognize us when we first access the forum and identify whether we have current subscriptions, especially when the landing page shows us the expiration date of our current subscriptions. It would definitely reduce the annoyance factor and make the forum user-friendlier.
Best regards,
Brad
Good idea, I hadn’t thought of that.
