Fruimodel replacement tracks for Dragon Tiger I

This might sound kinda silly, but I can’t seem to find any metal replacement tracks for the dragon kit [#6406 Late production tiger I]

Found the modelkasten plastic replacements, but no metal tracks… [I really want to try metal track!]

Are there any companies other than Fruimodel thak make replacements?

The vinyl tracks provided with the kit are very nice ~ for vinyl, however they are still vinyl…

Karaya makes an excellent set similar to Fruils, but much sharper in detail. I used them once and they are great. Try a search through one of the retail sights for Karaya. They make metal tow cables as well.

Are these the ones you’re looking for?

Does your Tiger I late have rubber or steel wheels? I believe the Friul set is for rubber tired variants.

Rubber or steel? I’m not sure - did not stop to look, these cetainly do look like the ticket, but more importantly the link provided the correct spelling for friulmodel [I had been searching for fruimodel!] and a part number.

Maybe I’ll be able to find a Canadian distributor.

-thanks.

Karaya… Great tip, a quick google and they show up as, http://www.karaya.ceti.pl/, they also provide a reseller list with links to a Canadian distributor, who also stocks the friul stuf…

-thanks.

Espins you have 2 types of treads for the Tiger the narrow type for use when the tank is traveling on a tank transporter and the wide type for when it is in the field.

There are actually 3 types of tracks for the Tiger I … well 4 actually, you could argue that there are 5.

The most common ones are the early type with the 3 grooves in the tread surface, then there are the later ones with the raised cheverons for better traction, these were used on the late and midproduction, midproduction had rubber rimmed roadwheels and the late version had steel rimmed roadwheels, and then ofcourse there are the narrow transport tracks.

Then you have the very early type, looks exactly like the other early version but is handed.

There are some pictures of “Ostketten” for Tiger tanks, but i don’t know of any company who makes them for models.

Personally i’d prefer the Modelkasten tracks, but thats just me.

Correct, I assumed he meant the tracks they normally wear when they’re not being transported by railcar. What a pain in the A** it must have been to swap those out everytime it was time for a train ride. [:O]

I used Friuls on my recently completed Tiger 1 Early “Das Reich”. I love those tracks! [:D]

It was more than a pain to change out the tracks. You also had to remove the 4 outer set of road wheels on each side too![:O]

They had to remove 8 wheels on each side, 1 on each suspension arm. Actually according some unit history books an experienced crew could do it in 30 minutes.

With steel rimmed roadwheels all they had to do was to change the tracks, and it would have been even faster.
