howdy folks !
i have just uploaded a few pix to RonUSMC’s newly renovated gallery…
(yippee and PTL !!!)
they’re not great pix, but it’s a start ! there’s a shot of my airfix chieftain (my first afv model), some progress shots of the pink Panther ausf. g, and a couple of pix of my panzer iv ausf. g uparmor conversion (if the file ever finishes uploading… i’ll bet i jinxed something ![:(] ) with scratchbuilt spaced turret armor and schurzen. i still need to do some detail and weathering on these models, but i wanted to get something up just to see if it would work… apart from the still-uploading file, the pix of the chieftain and panther should be viewable.
just don’t expect too much…[:I]
more will follow, i promise !

Those look real good Frosty!! The pink Panther is coming along nicely! I’m glad you found a pc with a usb port and got those uploaded! I was hoping that was a Silver Doller laying next to your Chieftain and not a quarter [:p] No way I could work on kits that small. The p/e for my 1/16 Tiger is driving me nuts!!

The idler wheel appears to be too low, is it positioned correctly?

What will you be scratchbuilding the turret skirts for? Looks like that PzIV, the only tank in your bunch that had turret skirts, already has them.

Frosty, They all look great. I wish my braille scale stuff would come out so well. Super job on the shurtzen! I can’t get my Parts pe set to look that nice! Thanks for the pics. You did a good job on them. Looks like you’ve got a pretty nice n scale pike there, too. (I’ve got a lot of HO stuff, but no place to put it!

about the panzer iv:
in case anyone is wondering, the side skirts and spaced turret armor are removeable. I didn’t want to permanently hide the suspension detail and weathering, so the shurzen are just balanced (very delicately !) on the hull. turret spaced armor is a clip fit. side skirts are sheet styrene w/ brass strip and styrene I-beam for mounting brackets and bits of thin styrene rod for bolt detail. spaced turret armor and mounting brackets are brass strips soldered together, main piece cut to rough shape w/ tin snips, bent around a bottle of paint to form the curve and with needlenose pliers for the angles, then mill filed to final shape and dimensions. hinges were added from small pieces of brass strip and center door overleaf made from strip styrene.
i wasn’t happy with the mounting surface for the turret bustle, so i drilled the turret and bustle and attached them together using a bit of a paper clip as a dowel. i also added an extra bit of armor plate from sheet styrene to the front of the hull bow plate , w/ styrene rod bolt detail …
other little details like grab irons on top of the turret, and a retaining bar for the spare roadwheels are also on there. i still want to add the radio antenna and a bracket for spare track up front…
i wanted my panzer iv to look more like the ones i’ve seen in the magazines
(and here, of course) , and i had a lot of fun with the uparmor conversion.
it actually does look pretty good at arm’s length, but i know i have a long way to go to match much of what i see around here.
but i’ll keep on trying !

Hey Frosty, great work there. i havn’t built one of those Cheiftain’s for ages,(and mine wasn’t anywhere near that good) looking at yours makes me want to go get one and have a “blast from the past” with it. cheers for sharing you work with us. Greg

Frosty, NICE WORK! I can’t imagine painting 1/72 scale road wheel rubber (I have a rough time in 1/35 scale!). The Pink Panther looks like a lot of fun! (there was a pink JSII Soviet War Memorial in Prague at one time… a friend gave me a photo).

Looks Great Frosty…I’ll be sure to show my wife the pink panther LOL since she thinks Tanks are ugly! Geesh I keep trying to tell her if you have a tank in Saphire Blue the bad guys are bound to see you even with the trees in the way! LOL
looks great, i couldn’t even imagine working in that scale , i have a hard enough time with small parts in 1/32 , i can only imagine the size of ALL parts in 1/72
