Frosted Future

I’m haveing trouble with future frosting on me, and not just light frosting, heavy duty nearly white. It doesn’t happen over the whole kit but only in areas. This usually happens when putting on decals. I use micro-set then micro-sol after the decal is down. It doesn’t happen all the time(about 5% of the time or less). Putting another clear coat (future or other) doesn’t help at all.

Maybe your future has not fully cured yet. The stuff is nice, but it takes a long time to cure all the way. I usually wait a minimum of 48hrs after spraying future before doing anything with the model.

it’s happened after curing for much longer than that. Sometimes a week or two.

Weird, maybe it’s something to do with the decal setting solution? Just to let you know, if you use future, you need absolutely NO decal setting solution!!

The decals don’t conform to the panel lines if I don’t use Micro-sol

I’ve found that MIcro-sol makes the Future go a little soft, especialy where I allow it to pool, so I take care not to put too much Mocro-sol on the model. The soft areas go a little milky until the Future sets up again.
I’ve not had Future “frost” before AFTER cure - I’ve had it frost many many times just after application, but as it cures, the frosting disappears (boy did I nearly have a heart attack!!).
Frosting, or “blooming” usually occurs when there’s very high humidity and water vapour gets trapped inside the paint applied to the surface.
To prevent this, use a water trap on your compressor, or make sure you only airbrush on days with fairly low humidity (never when it’s raining outside).
Best of luck,

Just to reiterate, the frosting did occur after curing. I’ll watch out for pooling Micro-sol. But also, I do have a moisture trap on my compressor. In addition, the humdity in the house is low. During the winter there is no humidifier and in the summer the air conditioning keeps the humidity down. I usually have to be careful that paint doesn’t dry before it hits the model. I actually found that carefully adding more micro-sol seems to clear up the frosting. Weird.

Any decal setting solution that is alcohol based can cause Future to frost, even if it has fully cured. When using setting solutions don’t over do it and never let it puddle anywhere on the model. Try to keep the solution on the decal and at a minimum on the surrounding area. I’ve had this happen on a few models but after everything set for 48 hours another top-coat of Future cleared up the frost. I don’t have any answer why a later topcoat did’nt work in your case.

The Future should clear up again after some time. This happened to me before but the Future coating became crystal clear just hours after my decal application.

I have a corsair that frosted long before any decal setting solution was applied and also an f-16 that is still frosted. I also tried to put another coat of future on the f-16 but just coated the frosting. So I’m repainting and being more careful. Those are the only remaining problems. All others were fixed easily.
