French & Italian fighters on the go...

Here’s my 1/72 Arsenal VG.33… It’s a Pegasus kit, released a long while ago, typical short-run with thick sprues and rather poor fit, but it’s a challenging build!

You can see here the various parts of the kit and at a later stage, during the filling/sanding/sculpting operations. I mostly used Milliput to fill in the gaps. The fit was very poor under the fuselage at the points where the wings unit meet the nose and the tail. The Karmans on the top of the wing, just under the canopy had to be sculpted.

To keep me sane, I’m also working on Italeri’s 1/72 Macchi MC.202. The fit was not as bad as on the Arsenal but far from perfect there too! Still, as you can see, this one is further ahead on the production line!

Both aircraft have rather similar lines. The Arsenal appeared first just before WWII, but it’s development was stopped by the Nazi invasion. A few, about a dozen or so, were being tested by the French Air Force on May 10, 1940. It was a very superior design that would have given the Luftwaffe even more to worry about, had it been available in larger numbers a little bit earlier!

So far, so good. Keep us posted on progress.

Regards, Rick

dj good stuff. really good. thanks for posting it.

Wow DJ, great progress on those two challenging builds. I have the Pegasus kit as well I it does look pretty basic as do most of their kits. That was a beautiful little a/c though and you don’t see many built…presumably because it never made it into major production. Just too little too late.

Keep the pics coming!

Glad to see I’m not the only one

I’m currently building Italeri’s MC202, MC205, Re2000 and Ca311

I kind of got tired of the standard P-51, Spitfire thing and decided to put together something differant, I’m kinda thinking about Soviet or French next although the P-36 posted awhile back got me thinking about some of the more obscure US aircraft. I’m rather surprised the MC202, 205 isn’t a more popular subject its a nice looking aircraft.

Thanks Guys!

Ninedriver, this is my second ever Pegasus kit, after the Airco DH.5 I built nearly 20 years ago… I really liked their line of products.

Aaronw, you are absolutely right, the MC.202/205 family has some very interesting looking members and plenty of great looking colour schemes… Have you got pics of your Italian birds??

DJ, its always great to see something different to the usual diet of P51s, 109s, 190s and Spitfires, like Aaron says.

The Arsenal, or should that be L’Arsenal, is looking tres bon, and the Machi is belissimo!

For my part I’ve just picked up Mirage’s PZL P24G in 1/48, another alternative WWII fighter, though I’ve not had a chance to start it. Looks great in the box though, as it comes with it’s own PE and resin!

Look forward to seeing the completed Macchi and Arsenal.

That Greek PZL P24 appears to be very good, from what I’ve heard, Karl. It’s a great little subject too!

DJ, I am seriously impressed with the quality of the Mirage kit. So much so that I put the rescribing of the Dornier on hold, and started building the PZL. Probably a good thing, as I was starting to go cross eyeed!

So far I have built the wing, which is very substantial, the cockpit and engine. I am really enjoying this kit[:D], and would recomend it to anyone. Hopefully I’ll post some pictures in the near future.

Karl

Very nice work so far. Can’t wait to see these two finished.
