ive found this site for a free cad program for scratch building ive down loaded it

im trying to figure out how to get a scale drawing onto it [:D]

Thanks, Cap. I’ll check this software later to know how it compares with AutoCAD. Looks like lighter than AutoCAD and should have less functions. But I expect it to be more user friendly though.

Larry,

Computerized drafting program. CAD= Computer Aided Drafting. The idea being that redline changes and revisions are easier through computers and storage is kept at a minimum. Line work is more accurate and several layers of drawings can be done all at once. Rather than have the draftsmen do the math and plot the teeth of a gear around a circle, you puch in the number of teeth and the diameter of the wheel. It does the rest. Including making 3/4 views or 3d models of the gear. High end (although some low end software pkgs these days) combine the drafting ability with modeling and by simply scanning in the plan views a 3 dimensional modeled view can be made. The latest application you see of this is the computer graphic image, CGI, in movies like Jurassic Park, SPR and too many Sci Fi flicks.

Now you know more than you probobly cared too. Oh well, great party trivia I suppose.
