Does anyone know where these decals can be purchased? I am looking for USMC Phantoms In SEA—48-003. especially interested inF4B, serial 8377 of VMFA 122 Crusaders.
I believe they were issued in 98, If you have a set, I would be willing to pay for a good clear photocopy to use as a stencil. Thanks from an old hillbilly from Tennessee
Fox One decals should be available from Flightdecs, Squadron or GreatModels. I don’t know if this particular sheet is still available but start at these places anyway.
www.flightdecs.ca
www.squadron.com
www.greatmodels.com
Hope this helps and good luck with your search.[:)]
Thanks bstrump for the information on flightdecs.ca the have it in 1/72, but not in 1/48. Great models did not have it, and I had already tried Squadron, as I have bought so much from them, I should be a stockholder by now. It seems this is an OOP sheet and will be very difficult to find.
Hey Bob,
Try this… www.foxonedecals.com
If he doesn’t have anything on his website try e-mailing him to see if he has one or two extras at:
ben@foxonedecals.com or (316) 744-8350
Geez, Badbob, good luck on trying to find that sheet.
www.foxonedecals.com lists is as sold out, but maybe if you e-mail the site’s owner, Ben Backes, he’ll be able to help you find a sheet. I found him very helpful when I had a few questions on using his decals.
Another thought: if you’re looking to make a photocopy for use as a stencil, why not buy the 1/72 scale sheet and enlarge it on a photo copier?
By the way, if you click on the model gallery link at his site, you’ll see my 1/72 Monogram F-4J in VMFA-333 markings [:)] .
Regards,
Thanks guys for the help–was thinking of buying 1/72 set and enlarge it to 1/48 and copy it onto a clear decal sheet, but haven’t the slightest idea as to what decal paper to buy, or what copier to use.
I didn’t think of a regular photocopy enlargeed to 1/48–great idea as I probably would only need the unit markings.
By the way Drew, I’m originally from Elizabethtown Pa. a little down the road from you. As for Oklahoma, if I was a younger man, that’s where I would probably be a resident
Badbob, Elizabethtown is quite pretty. My wife and I visit there from time to time as she has family there.
I’m experimenting now with Testor’s decal making kit. It comes with two sheets of white decal paper for an inkjet or laser printer, some software (that I don’t need, but others have found useful), and some liquid decal film solution (that makes the carrier film when dry) in a spray can.
Micromark http://www.micromark.com/ offers a whole bunch of decal accessories. This includes decal paper ( http://www.ares-server.com/Ares/Ares.asp?MerchantID=RET01229&Action=Catalog&Type=Product&ID=82274 ) and liquid decal film. I’m sure you could use the decal paper in a color laser copier (avaible at Kinko’s, for instance) to make 1/48 decals from a 1/72 decal sheet you’ve bought.
MicroScale (makes of Micro Set and Micro Sol) also have a liquid decal film that can be brushed on. I picked up a bottle recently at my local hobby shop for a couple of bucks.
I’ll let you know how my decal making experiments go.
These are just my thoughts on how I’d go about things if I were in your situation. I’m actually thinking of picking up the Fox One 1/48 Phantom walkways decal set and reducing them with my scanner to make 1/72 Phantom Walways.
