FOUR GREATEST WWII AIRCRAFT -HELP!

Ooo the Typhoon… now theres a powerhouse!

here’s my [2c]

  1. iL-2 sturmovik
  2. Bf-109
  3. A5M Zero
  4. Spitfire

I agree with everyone that picking the 4 greatest is hard as how do you define “greatest”.

How about the aces
P-38 - top 2 USAAF
Corsair - top Marine
Hellcat - top Navy
P-47 - top USAAF in Europe
Bf-109 - top ? German (top 2 with over 300 kills each)
Zero - top Japanese Army and Navy
Spitfire - top ? British
Mc 202 - top Italian?
and many others.

Than there are the bombers , the transports, liason, rescue…

As others have said, “greatest” is somewhat subjective. Combining the performance values of each plane with the impact it made, here’s my list.

Spitfire XIV
Hellcat
Ju 87
Zeke

I tell you, of the models I currently have on display, the Typhoon wins hands down for most menacing.

i would have to say, based on what my grandfather(as a mechanic) said during the war, they are as follows:

P40 Kittyhawk, granddad said they were a great aircraft to maintain
Corsair, could almost out fly any japanese plane of the time, and if it couldn’t out fly it, it would blow it out of the sky.
Hurricane, as the air defender of britian, the spitfire is the show hero of the battle of brittan, but the hurricane was the workhorse.
bf-109, out matched any fiter for a long period of the war, took the allies a while to catch up,

these are of course my personal opinion, at not 100% fact

A6M2 Zero
BF-109(G)
P-51D Mustang
Spitfire

Here’s my list.

U.S. Army Air Force - P-47 or P-40
U.S. Navy/Marine Corps - Corsair
British - Mosquito or the Typhoon
Japan - Zero
Germany - Any Fw190
Russia - Yak 9, Mig 3, or Il2
Italy C202 or 205
