Found a new kit... In my stash

No,I just don’t have that many kits on hand to lose track.

I have over 250 kits in my stash… I also have a kit database software, but it’s only half full..

I go to my shelves and pick up a kit and see several I’ve forgotten about over the years…

Yes I have a SM account… It would take forever to do the clerical work to get them all in…

Although I will say the automatic features of the site would help with the clerical work…

I’ll have to think about it, I just might have a few kits that aren’t in their database…

Got it. Thanks. That’s way more cumbersome than it needs to be.

MisterMeester,

Yes, the controls seem a bit clunky on SM. Especially when you’re learning them.

You click the “+” as they’ve said and then hit the trash can to remove the item from the stash.

My stash lists in alphabetical order.

A lot of the controls I’ve learned by just hacking away at it. Create the stash, create the project, Add an album to the project, create a collection to store the projects together, and how they all interact with each other.

You can always request that a model be added to add your 69 charger. I found these two. ??

@fxsti03-42 Thank you so much for your reply.
I managed to trash the two kits I had in there. Now I can start over. I’ll have another sit down at it later today. And yes, looks like alphabetically is the way to go.
As for the Charger, I have the second one. I don’t know why that wouldn’t come up in the search I did.
Perhaps my search results were of other’s builds. When I searched ‘69 Chevy Nova SS the results all had “completed” attached to them. :man_shrugging:t2:

Yes, you need to search in the top bar under Kits. Many times I have it on Albums or something else and I’m like, WTH…

I have two cabinets to house my stash. But I have now outgrown them and have expanded onto an adjacent shelving unit. I have been re-organizing my stash to keep everything visible. I also carry photos on my phone of every kit I own so that I can refer to my stash when visiting my local hobby shop. So unfortunately, I will never enjoy the unexpected surprise of discovery.

For me, the key with “figuring out” the Scalemates stash system was to realize that it doesn’t work like a folder on my PC, it’s more like a basic list with minimal sorting options. To find things, you use the text search and/or filter checkboxes on the right hand side.

It’s pretty easy to manage that way, but not immediately intuitive.

One of the hardest parts is spending the time putting it all in. But once you have it in, it’s great.

I have found models I thought were something else.
I don’t have a huge stash, and its all in one place. So they don’t go AWOL much. But I had one box in a back room with “some models” in it…Ive moved it around for 20 years or more and didnt really know what was in there.
Surprise…2 of the same thing, and neither was what I thought was in the box!

@fxsti03-42 Agreed, but it’s easy to add the items as you order them and then move them from on order to in stash.

Thanks for the tips. Just sitting down now to try again. Thankfully my stash is only about 20 kits. Shouldn’t take too long. The wishlist might take longer .

One of the benefits of the wishlist is they will connect you with others that are selling one of the kits on your list. I can’t say anything about the purchase process since none of the connections were located in the US.

Oh my. That could get expensive. :grimacing:

My problem is anyone selling kits I want is in Europe. LOL. I need to build some of my 60+ kits before buying any more.

Well that didn’t take long. My wish list is small, but first purchase made. A kit I’ve had my eye on in the US just so happened to be available in Canada, where I am. Moebius Jonny Quest Dragonfly aircraft. I’m super stoked about this as I’m avoiding outrageous shipping charges with this order.
Purchase process was seamless. Just clicked on the appropriate vendor “In Stock” link and that took me directly to the vendor website.

Now to continue to learn other aspects of Scalemates!

I was looking through my kits after my move to AZ 3 years ago and I couldn’t find two kits. I was a bit frustrated wondering what happened. A year or two later I found them - fell behind the stacks. I was so close to ordering replacements!

I thought I had a 1/48 scale Italeri SR-71 because I had a mishap several years ago and had to ziplock bag a stack of kits that were soaked.

Turns out it was an Italeri YF-12, which I promptly built after rediscovering it !!
It did take a lot of effort but it really paid off.
