Found a new kit... In my stash

I have been going through my models. I have them all logged at SM, but I’ve been adding them into the ModelColors app on my iOS system.

I’ve been attempting to put together a list of what models in my stash I can build now, without having to buy paints. Plus putting together a wishlist of paints to do the schemes of the rest of my stash. I was surprised, when I found I only needed 5 colors to do the 6 models.

Trying to organize your colors can be quite daunting. The model instrustions call out Humbrol colors, but you have Tamiya and Vallejo, and going through each set of instructions making those conversion. The app has made that easier. I tired for years to put together a spreadsheet of the conversions. I was a PITA.

My wife made me put all my models into project boxes. She doesn’t like cardboard. So, I don’t have the awesome view of all my models stacked.sigh. They’re all in their individual plastic boxes.

As I was going through my stash, pulling instructions, I found a B-25J model that I had recently purchased and promptly forgot about. I didn’t even log it into SM. SCORE!!! So I have an additional model in my stash. Yeah me!.

Have you every found a wayward model in your stash that you forgot about?

What is the benefit(s) to creating a Scalemates account?

Thanks,

I was looking for a way to inventory and track all my models and items. SMs has the ability to track all that.

  1. It shows you a marketplace where you can purchase items you like

  2. It shows you a related items list of all the accessories you might want to make your model greaterer.

  1. It has a Newsfeed that people post their build logs and finished photos, so there are more awesome pictures of peoples builds to spend your time oggling

  2. You can organize your projects into collections.

  3. You’re build is a project that you show everything you’ve used to make your build.

  4. You create photo albums that you link to your project. So you can have a build photo album and a finished album all linked to that project.

  5. You can create a wishlist of what you want to buy. You can list items you have for sale.

Just to name a few. It’s also another great place of good people to chat with about modelling. I’m sure there is more that I haven’t figured out on there.

I mean, besides that stuff, what’s it really good for? LOL.

Thanks for the rundown. I’ve poked around the site but hadn’t considered creating an account until now.

Wow fxst, you sold me! I had no idea that you could do all of that on scale mates. That will be a Summer project for me this year.

Oh wow! That’s a lot of benefits! I’ll have to get on that! Thanks!

When you do, send me a friend request on there so I can watch you there as well.

You can also check out new kit in-box reviews and track whether the kit you seek is new tooled or derived from older kits with just new decals or parts or box art. I submit the First Look reviews for AMPS there all the time. You can also usually download kit instructions for most kits.

BTW, I wasn’t trying to push people towards SMs with my initial post. FSM is amazing with amazing people and I’ll be here just as much as always.

But I was asked and I find the stash cataloging ability there very beneficial.

When you get to be an old guy like me, every visit to the stash is like a visit to the hobby shop.

I’m not sure how “old” of an old guy you are, but I’m getting close…

Great share about scale mates. Very informative
I knew it was a good reference for kits and cataloging your stash. Did not know about any of the other benefits.
Thanks!

I keep pronouncing it “fixty” in my head, so nice to know I’m not the only one that shortens it!

I have an account at SM but it seemed like it would take forever to input the stash details. I should get back to it, though, slowly get that inventory in there. I also have a copy of Kitbase2 that I was starting to use (instead), but same thing - it seems like it’ll take forever to input the stash details, when I could use that time for modeling…

I’ve had a scalemates account forever. Besides the obvious there is also the wishlist where you can have a list of kits you’re interested in. I thought about kitbase but I can do the same thing with excel to a point

Only a couple of times and its usually when I put a second kit inside another box

Organized my closet of the past week and did find some aftermarket tracks I forgot I had. Good thing to because I was about to order the same set next week. Didn’t find any kits I forgot about unfortunately.

I really do need to make a scalemates account.

My friends in the gaming community call me f u kstix… The FXSTI is the Harley code for a softail standard which I had a 2003 model. Hence FXSTI03… Or you can just call me Mike.

I’m thinking that calling you Mike is a lot more forum friendly……

Finally got around to creating a Scalemates account. Gotta say, I find it very user unfriendly right from the get go. Did it change?
First off, the very first kit I picked to enter in my stash (Monogram 1/32 ‘69 Dodge Charger) is not in the database.
Secondly, got two kits entered, and then went to have a peek and discovered they were being added in the opposite order I wanted. So I looked for a way to reverse that (from ascending to descending? or the other way around?) but couldn’t find a function anywhere to do that.
Third, I wanted to just remove the kits from my stash and start over, but for the life of me I could not find any remove function.
Fourth, I then watched the tutorial video on stash management and the website in the video looks different than it does now. The functionality in the video all looks different also. That appears to have changed as well. For example, looks like once upon a time one could categorize their stash (which I would love to do). Categories would solve the ascending vs descending issue because if I could categorize then I wouldn’t care. And other easy functions, such as remove. In the tutorial, but not available as the website is now, it appears to me.

Tempted to just give up. Not sure where else to ask if this website has taken steps backwards.
Anyone else experiencing frustration with Scalemates, or is it just me?

Thanks and cheers,
Mark

Scalemates appears to default by relevance, with the most popular ones at the top, but you can change it to A>>Z which I find more useful. The options to add, remove and list other fields in your stash show up when you click the “+” sign.
