Does any one out there make a 1/48 kit of the Ford Tri-Motor? If so please let me know where to order one. TVM.
Unfortunately none exist. I wish it would! The only halfway decent kit is the old Monogram 1/76 scale kit that gets re-released from time to time
Actually it is 1/77, but Airfix has a 1/72 one that Don Stauffer is building in the Civil Forum. I am slowly building a Revell one as a AAC C-9.
The Revell 1:77 and the Airfix 1:72 are the only kits I know of (in plastic, anyway). The Revell is easy to build, but not super detailed, and of course that scale is far enough away from 1:72 that you cannot use aftermarket engines to put on more detailed engines.
The Airfix kit has a major problem with the struts holding the engines below the wings. The strut assemblies do not match up with the holes in the wing! I have tried a couple of jigs to glue the struts to the nacelle in such a way that the result would match the holes in the wing, but no luck so far. I have decided I will have to scratchbuild the struts from brass.
There is a Jerry Lewis movie titled “The Family Jewels”, in which Jerry is piloting an old Ford Tri-Motor. You just gotta see how he cranks the three engines in that thing! Hilarious!!

Indeed, the Revell 1:77 is decent (it was my first model) but nothing in 1:48.
