What, were you expecting a jet? This is that other F-5E. Monogram kit. Why Monogram? I like old kits.

Pat, I think it needs more weathering………

(Just pulling your leg from the other thread.)
This was the one painted that odd blue they tried for photo-recon, right?
I was expecting a jet too.
Very nice looking F-5 you have there!
Very NICE Clean Build
Bud
too clean if ya ask me… nice build btw.
[#ditto] Nice finish. What blue did you use for the finish? That’s a tough color to model with, for sure.
Nice work. Have to do one of these as a late war RAAF PRU myself. Geez those old Monogram kits come up nicely, don’t they?
Showing the wide variation in people’s tastes for weathering, I actually think this one is weathered very subtley with great results. Very nice.
Beautiful!!

A very awesome build. Nice work.
Oh, I like it! Is that PRU blue, Pat, or is it a mix you did yourself? Very convincing, especially the sheen. Nice photo, too. I would suspect it was done with a film camera.
I have 3 of the Monogram kits stored away and another in my display case I built in 1967 (or earlier) and I have always felt that they really capture the feeling of the P-38. But I wonder, is that because I’ve been looking at the one I built for 40 years?
There are a series of photos of a trio of in-flight F-5s out there demonstrating some very tired looking airplanes. I deliberately leaned in the other direction. The invasion stripes are distracting enough to the sexy lines of the Lightning, in my opinion. The blue is Extracolor PRU blue with a bit of white, which is alleged to be what the later photo Lightnings (at least the ones in Europe) were painted with.
All in all I think the Monogram P-38 is still a worthy model. It has some problems, but it also has serious nostalgia for some of us.
Pat,
Excellent work, and I agree with you, I like the older kits, nostalgically and they are just plain fun!

Beautiful work on the recce Lightening. I don’t remember ever seeing one with the side oblique cameras having that huge pod around the windows. Thanks for sharing.

I don’t recall seeing one of these before but I’m young and learning. Thanks for the “new” plane. I like older kits. They are often cheaper and since I like detailing, I don’t see why I should pay for kit details I probably will replace anyway.
