Those Brits in the Royal A.F. can get away with a lot more than U.S. Pilots can…I would hate to be in the cargo area of that Hook in flight…RALPH!!! [xx(]
Hey guy!! Just watched the video clip of that RAF Hook and I must say that was something to see!!! I didn’t realize it was that maneuverable!!! I know the crew chief was hanging on for dear life!!![:P][;)][(-D]
I could be wrong but flights like that would probably call for the Pilot and co-pilot only…at least in the U.S. anyways. Then again flights like that in the U.S. …I don’t think so!
I have been in the aircraft while similar (but not matching, or as agressively flown) manuevers have been flown. That “60mph back-taxi” was pretty funny looking. My guess is the FE was laying on the ramp going “clear back 100, nose right, 75, nose right, 50, NOSE RIGHT!, 25, PULL PITCH!” before they drove off the taxiway.
(Most common cause of driving off the taxiway was a newbie crewbie back-taxiing the aircraft and not telling the pilots “STOP!” in sufficient amount of time, or not telling them when they’re still drifting to the rear during the turn.)
Low level flight over the mountains with the attendant downdrafts and lenticular waves, etc, is always sporty, too…
(Yes, it was a US Army 'hook, and no, it was NOT in CONUS…)
