Fonderie Miniatures Mirage 5 F, No. 6037

Anyone who has it (especially if you have or are building it) care to comment? I just got one, and I’m underwhelmed.

That is a common reaction to F.M kits in general, Ross. I built the PV-1 kit, what a challenge! Almost 4 months to get the d****d thing together and looking (somewhat) like a Lockheed [banghead] ! It was my first (and ostensibly my last) F.M kit, especially given their price point! Good luck with the Mirage!

Figures that it’s a mirage…

[:-^]

I think I’ll set this one aside until I’m really motivated, or really want a challenge (as in: “Open box. Add adhesives. Carve away anything that doesn’t look like the aircraft in question.”)

What really bugs me is the inevitable Murphy’s solution: About the time I almost have it finished, someone will come out with a Mirage F5 “Nesher,” with the Israeli markings for the exact aircraft I want to model.

Must build faster!!! Sleep less!!! [zzz]

Ross, I’ve got a Fondarie Miniatures kit that I’ve got to build for a friend of my grandfathers. Just looking in my kit, I’m in for a lot of work. It’s got resin, PE, and white metal, plus plastic parts that won’t fit well. Maybe we could motivate eachother???

There are some good sources for IAF decals. Isra Decals of course and Eagle Strike. The IAF has a really good website too.

Radmax8,

But motivate to do what? Kitbash? Perhaps literally? [(-D]

For the moment, I’m trying to stick to kits that are either relatively simple or close to “shake the box.” After the P-39, I would like to avoid “shake your head” kits for awhile! [(-D]

Bondoman, any recommendations on good places to buy Eagle Strike? Finding decals seems even worse than finding kits. IsraDecal makes great looking stuff, but most in the wrong scale for what I have or want to build. Going to check out the IAF site.

Precisely! LOL. I know what you mean about bear kits, and not wanting to build another quite yet. Perhaps a nice, easy Me-109 will do the trick for you[;)]

I don’t have the Mirage, but I have tackled a couple of FM kits, which I battled to a draw. Unless you’re a hardened masochist, best to avoid FM kits. They do offer some interesting aircraft, but they also offer very poor quality at a premium price. So unless it’s a bird you absolutely can’t live without, give them a very wide berth.

Regards, Rick

That’s me! [8D] Just not right now.… [B)]

RadMax8, I’m working on a Testor’s XF-29A (ex-Hawk kit), and a Tamiya Mosquito. When those are done, I think I’ll do a few 1/72 Soviet WWII fighters…unless I get distracted…

[(-D]

Squadron has alot, but I perused it just now, not that that is an easy task, and didn’t see any IAF stuff except first generation by another manufacturer. If it’s Avias you want…

Here is a link to the coolest set ES has, I think…

http://decals.kitreview.com/decals/esp48153reviewjk_1.htm

you are 1/48, right?

1/48 and 1/72, etc. I’m not scale particular, except that I avoid 1/144—not enough detail, and what is there is too tiny for these old eyes!

Thanks for the link!
