Fonderie Miniatures LCVP

Hi, everyone.

I have started on the Fonderie Miniatures LCVP, and could use some advice. I am most puzzled as to how the rear deck fits in, as it appears to be too wide for the ribs.

Should I file th ribs to make room, or do I file the deck? Reason I’m asking is, I’m a measure 30 times, cut once, then cuss a blue streak because I didn’t measure right.[#wstupid]

Anybody else out there that tried this kit? From the reviews, there were…issues with the molding of the kit. Mine appears to be pretty well molded, thank the mold gods!

Anybody?

Anybody?

Bueller?

Doesn’t matter, the fit is awful on all the parts!
I taped the hull & deck front & rear, turned it upside down on the bench, then pressed the hull down to ‘spread’ the hull sides out to meet the raised ‘lip’ & super glued as I went along.
Before that I drilled 11 holes along each edge to take mounting pins for the rope.
Mine is currently ‘resting’ waiting for inspiration… I’ll look up some refs & WIP for you…
How about a deal, I’ll finish mine if you do likewise, no rush, round here they call me ‘glacier’ [:I]

I’m game. It might take me the rest of this year, though…and maybe most of the next![(-D] I didn’t think mine had that many fit problems, but, I’m still thrashing on it, so I’m sure they will rear their ugly heads.

So, Jon, what DID you do for the deck? Also, did your kit have multiple sprues for the deck pieces? Mine has enough parts to do 2 decks, and 2 engine compartments! Not that I’m complaining, mind.[:D]

No worries on the timescale mate 3 months is a QUICK build for me!
I’ll take some pics on my Work (not) In Progress, over next few days, If I remember my Photobucket pasword!
Jon

Haven’t forgotten - been a ‘secret shopper’ for hospital food,
will be on the case in a week or so, but WILL be on the case soon!

OK
Uploaded some pics to photobucket:

Usefull drawing of lca, sorry didn’t note book title, shows winch runs, & 11 loops for side ropes

red indicates additions to sides & holes for loops

Small Parts, these are duplicated, & need to be!, the funnels & vents were drilled out, props awful!

strip plastic, as indicated in instructions, & necessary to cover gaps!

Rear, holes indicate where I drilled out location points for fittings & engine exhausts,
I erm… made a pigs ear of gluing the back panel to sides, so much sanding needed!

Much filler! Parts undercoated with Testors Haze Grey & Deck Blue for test purposes.

enjoy!

Looking good, Jon! I’ve never seen the LCA kit. I’ve been pondering getting the Italeri LCM, if for no other reason than inspiration. The LCVP is a real head-scratcher, when you look at the size of the parts versus where they have to go…[%-)]

Maybe it’s like a TARDIS, bigger on the inside than outside![(-D]

Italeri LCVP a snap!

Most difficult parts:
Observe the build instructions for the Hull ribs carefully & methodically
joining the deck to the hull sides due to the length of it,
painting the life belt rings, I left mine just white,
Running the loading ramp winch rigging
& sanding off the awfull mess I made spraying Tamiya Treacle off the hull, I switched to Vallejo soon after & binned most of my Tamiya paints

Enjoy it as a good build, & next up after the LCA the LCT, I fancy ‘rippled’ hull sides!
