Here she is in all her glory i’ve still got a bit of cleaning up to do on her but i hope you will like her, i hope no one else has to put up with what i had to [:(!], i’m so glad its over and done with, its taken 2 months at an average of 9hrs a day [:O], i think the exhaust staining is a bit too grey what do reckon ?, alter it !
she’s a 102sqd halifax based at RAF POCKLINGTON yorkshire…
thanks again for your replies [:D] and to all of the gang who have followed yet another in build thread [tup]
Way to go Ian, you turned this [censored] into a gem! Looking at the photos, one cannot tell you had any difficulty. As for the exhaust stains, they do look a little gray to me as well. Perhaps a darker brown on the outer edges, followed with some tan in the centers. Just my [2c]
Again, well done. Thanks for the WIP build, and the tips on your masking techniques! I am going to put them into play this evening on my Spitfire.
Oh come now, Ian- everybody knows this kit is unbuildable! [}:)] You’ve done a wonderful job bringing this bird to life- you’re a real modeler’s modeler, sir!
ian another amazing job on a POS kit. I think you are the only one i know who likes to abuse himself more than me! On my bench 1/48 Classic Airframes Model 14 Super Electra Trumpeter 1/32 P-38. Unfortunatly I only get about 8 hours a week to model so it is no wonder Ihave not put a model in my display case for 9 months. What do you have planned for you next build. It is going to be hard to top your Halifax.
Oh wow. It looks great and you made it look so easy! [B)] I like the exhaust stains . Not to overdone and show up well. I keep asking myself, How did he do that? I am still toiling away with mine. I’ll try to do some pics and keep you informed of my progress if you like. You do realize that I am blaming you now everytime I sit at my work bench. Your sense of accomplishment is well deserved. You deserve a medal for patience. Well done!
I’d really like to get into a british heavy bomber, trouble is, I’d really prefer to do a lancaster but I only build in 1/48 scale. I wont budge on the scale…for any airplane! A halifax would be sweet though. Any kit recomendations? I’d be looking for a decently priced kit, $30-$50 range, I’m not to willing to go above that. I did see a 1/48 lanc kit with spinning props, dont remember who the kit was by but it was in the $90 range so I passed on it.
You did a real smashing job on her!! I personaly do not think you have overdone the stains, and from reading the Lanc build up in a recent issue of SAMI, they too had very grey staining. I think yours is spot on. Great work!!
You could try your luck with E-bay, if you search for Tamiya Lancaster. They did several boxings: BIII, BI Special with Grand Slam, and Dambuster. Later, they came out with the overpriced spinning props.
Seriously, motors aren’t that expensive, and it doesn’t take much electronics know-how to get the wiring right. This is a 1:72 Fw 190 with a pager motor, couple of wires, a watch battery, some plastic card and brass foil:
the only 1/48th lancaster is the tamiya one, the BI/BIII fetch anything up to $198 dollars and the prop version go for about $120.00 dollars [:(!], you could always get a vac’ form avro lincoln in 1/48th scale from sanger, they are only about $65 dollars + postage [:D], i’ve made one of those too [tup]
i injured my back at work last year and now i’m unable to do much, other than modeling [sigh]
i’ve nearly been off work now for nearly 1 year, boring as hell i’ll tell you and got no money this is why i built this kit !! it is for some one who’s dad flew from RAF POCKLINGTON during the war.
Ian - Absolutly fantastic work lad! [bow] Not only did you have to actually use modelling skills, but you beat the fit beast down something fierce! Bravo friend, Bravo!!
I am not sure if you are still checking this page or taking a well deserved break but I wanted to let you know I posted a few pics of my progress in a seperate thread.
