Here’s the ketten on its base and ready for my display case.
The idea for the base came from a period tech manual on the correct way to cross a ditch using the kettenrad.
The base is mdf and then a piece of styrofoam from a piece of equipment we had shipped to the shop. It was cut with a hot wire and then glued ot the mdf. Wall compound was spread on the sides and then sanded. This was painted and a coat of polyeuorthane was brushed on.
Ground work is celuclay/plaster/whiteglue with kitty litter and sand mixed in. This was spread and then more ground material was added. Painted and then grassed with static grass, pompass grass fronds and cisal rope.
Everything was painted and then dry brushed.
The figure was converted to stand more upright in the drivers position similar to the photo.
The vehicle is attached to the base via pins from the tracks into the ground material.
Thanks to Ron George’s web site for the photo bucket.
It’s funny how just a little topography can produce such a sense of action and movement. It is inspiring me towards building my next diorama, to have a T-34 and SU-85 crossing a trench-line, using a similar composition. It really looks great Mike.
