folding!

what is your technique of photoetch folding?!

I have a hold & fold. When folding, I’ll use either a single edge razor blade, or the xacto with a number 11 blade. Which ever blade I use depends on the size of the piece.[^]

does it take some strength to bend it?

Nope it doesnt but some care needs to be taken when you fold because pe is a tad on the fragile side. Biggest problem is the stuffs tendacy to take flight at the slightest provocation, me and the carpet monster are on first name basis, beer drinkin buds.
like all things with modeling take your time and go slow

and dont forget the super glue

and kicker. never work with those tiny parts without the CA kicker…

Cut them in a bowl of water.
They won’t fly away and you can get even the smallest piece back by pouring the water thru a coffee filter.

Nice idea! I use a tool that the same company that made the hold and fold sells. It is a little plastic deal that hold the PE down when you cut…very simple to make out of a piece of plastic or plexiglass (I made one for my brother)

ooo lotsa nice idears![:D]

I use a very basic set of tools and they have served me well for years.

As for parts flying off when cut, I use my No#11 blade and a cutting mat, and place my finger on top of the blade.
Haven’t lost a part yet![;)]

The Small Shop’s Hold & Fold, hands down. I have their 4" model and use it often. Frankly, I don’t know how anyone can fold PE parts well without one!

I use the hold and fold as well. Great tool. To attach them, many people prefer the ultra thin 1-3 sec super glue, but I use the gap filling variety to attach my PE pieces. It works great for me.

[#ditto] but I’d also add that you should anneal your PE parts before bending, particularly if it’s a complex shape you’re making. For the uninitiated, annealing is just a simple heating of the parts over a lighter or similar heat source. Best not to use a candle though, as it’s a dirty flame & you’ll end up with soot all over the place.

Also, I’ve heard that bathing the parts in vinegar before painting helps the paint adhere, as it etches the surface minutely, giving the paint a “keyed” surface to cling to, and also removes any grease from your fingerprints. Give it a go, but don’t let your wife catch you putting the used vinegar back in the bottle! [;)]

Only use “White Vinegar!”…Thats what it says in my Vinegar book!..Good idea, I’d forgot all about vinegar…Thank you…

lol - you have a book on vinegar??? [;)]

Ha,ha…Yes mike I do…“The Vinegar Book” by Emily Thacker…It’s 57 pages of using vinegar(apple & white) for cleaning, cooking drinking, diet drinks, washing clothes, making dill pickles, and fighting disease…Its the only med’s the Egyptian’s had…they mixed it with honey to fight colds etc…It kills bacteria, so they put it on wounds… So does honey, bacteria can’t get through honey, put some on your next cut finger and wrap a band-aid around your finger…take it off in a couple days and it will be healed…Egyption’s used to mix honey and water together and let it cure into mead. Mead is a alcoholic drink and they used to give it to people , get them drunk and pull their teeth or sew up a wound and used it to get drunk !..People today still drink mead and get drunk…ha,ha…Only use apple cider vingar to drink or cook with…The white vinegar is toxic if you use to much…A cup of white vinegar in your dirtest clothes will have them coming out so clean! Also put a cup on white vinegar in your wash machine when you buy new levis…Turn them inside out and wash them when you first buy them and the blue will not fade…same in your dish washer, put a cup in everythree months…Same with your rice cooker, fill the kruddy cup in the middle of your rice cooker, turn it on and its boils out all the build up…Good stuff and you’ll have no build up in your dishwasherTry it…You’ll like it I think you can buy the book at a health food store…My Sister gave me the one I’ve got She’s a health junky…Mean while back at the modeling table I go…ha,ha…“RC” [C):-)]

my wife?!
the closest thing I have is the little acquantence that I have with this cellist in my trio![:D]
I did slow dance with her at a dance…[:0] I don’t know how it happened but it did!
she’s not that bad looking either… actually, she’s great! heh heh

BTW, I’m in 6th grade[:D][:D]

since we are on the subject, apple cider vinegar works WONDERS with mosquito and flea bites to stop the itching… just pour it right on the bit or on a rag and wipe it one and PRESTO!!! in a few seconds to a minute or so it stops the itching…

White vinegar works good as an antiseptic as Pegleg said…

White and red wine vinegar are worthless except for cooking…

Malt Vinegar helps a little with itching and such… not as much as Apple cider vinegar…

Some old Cajun home remedies… tried and true!

What’s kicker and how do you use it?[?]

Yeah, I made it to 100[:o)]

zip kicker can be bought just about anywhere youre lhs should have it and micromark stocks it.
