Fokker Dr. I 1/72

Just finished this for the great war GB. Revell of Germany Fokker Dr. 1 in 1/72 scale. The paint scheme is pseudo fictional, dunno I just liked the look of a black triplane. I plan on doing another in the red barron scheme, thanks for looking.[t$t]

She looks good to me!

That looks very nice especially the woodgrain finish on the propeller. It would be pretty tiny too in 1/72 scale.

This looks very good. How did construction go? I have a couple of these, but haven’t built any yet.

Basic construction is pretty straight foreward. The only issues I noticed were the attachment points for the landing gear are small and the wheels can be easily broken off. The top wing is a little on the tricky side to get aligned right. I took 6 post-it notes of info on this build to make it go smoother next time. Basically just watch that weight bearing landing gear assembly, test fit it alot and you’ll do fine.

After mounting it to its base some of the landing gear struts came loose so the airframe rocks a bit. I reiterate during assembly pin those struts or use industrial glue because what needs to be the strongest part of the kit seems to have been designed with the weakest attchment.

Blitzwing: Thanks on the woodgrain. It’s actually pretty easy to do in any scale with heavily thinned artists oils. I painted the prop a base of acrylic RAF Dark Earth, let it dry then brushed thinned oils over it almost like a stain. While it was still wet I lightly went over it uni-directional with a thinner dampened clean brush which left the streaking behind.

Thanks, Mike. I’ll keep that in mind when I get to mine.
