Wondering were to purchase foil sheets, i see a lot of people using them on cars and truck beds. I would like to try them, no clue were to purchase them.
Do you mean Bare Metal Foil, which is an adhesive-backed thin metal foil product? Or metal foil, like lead foil?
You can search for lead foil online, or in hobby shops, especially model railroad supply shops. But for years, we’ve scrounged metal foil from sources like wine bottles (wrapped around the necks of the bottles) or from tubes, like toothpaste tubes. Now today, those products are made from plastic and a very thin layer of metal. They can still be used, but they don’t work as well as the old material which was all metal. But some tubes are still made of metal foil. Go to the grocery store and look for tomato paste. It’s now available in tubes here in the US, just like in Europe. And I found that the tube material is good old metal foil.
As far as Bare Metal Foil goes, you can go right to their website: Bare-Metal, Detailing Model Cars, Trains, and Aircraft, duplicate chrome on model cars or look online for vendors near you.
Hope that helps!
Best regards,
Brad
For bare metal foil, do take a minute to shop around. There is wide variance in the prices that various vendors are asking. For example I see the same “ultra bright chrome” sheet going for $16.38 on Amazon (albeit with free shipping) and also listed on scalehobbyist.com for $5.79 (shipping cost would apply). I go through this stuff so much that I buy like 4 sheets at a time, and the shipping cost becomes less as a percentage of the whole.
Yes that’s what i’m looking for, thank you
Thank you for the information

I forgot to mention: A common complaint from folks who have kept sheets of BMF for a long time is that the adhesive becomes less effective as the sheet ages. One countermeasure that seems to help is to always keep the sheets in an airtight zip-lock type bag when not using them. I can confirm doing this does actually help its longevity.
I have Ammo chrome sheets, bare metal foil is hard to get in this part of the world.
Listed at Andys Hobby Headquarters, but currently out of stock. Sure other shops have these as well. For five sheets good value for the money, I think.
Thank you for the information, something new i want to try. Instead of painting the chrome on the car.
