Focke-Wulf question ???

I would like to build a late war FW-190 A8 and was looking for the best kit . I’m having trouble finding the Dragon FW190 and was wondering if there was another option, the Arii kit is around 10$ seems to good to be true. Would like to stay in 1/48 scale. Thanks !!! Ron

If accuracy means little to you, then the Arii/Otaki kit will do just fine. It has several outline and shape problems, but it looks like a 190. It builds up with little fuss and I found it very enjoyable.

However, if accuracy does mean something to you, pass it up…

Fade to Black…

I’ve built the Arii FW and it’s a pretty good kit for the price. But it wasn’t as well detail as a Tamiya kit though. If you do get the Arii kit you probably want to buy a extra decal sheet.

Other than the Dragon/DMl & Arrii, there is the Tamiya FW-190 F. To make an accurate A8, you’ll need some aftermarket conversion sets. I think Cutting Edge & possibly Verlinden make them.

I like the Tamiya kit a bit more than the dragon one, but those are the two that I know enough to say anything about.

I am up to my ears in pretty new 1/32 PE frets for every piece of an FW-190A-5 and the same with FW-190A-8. These are Eduard frets for the HAS kits, and the cockpit sets are virtually complete PE replacement cockpits, sidewalls, sills, everything. And I have new flaps and lots of extermal paneling and details. I’ve heard one of these HAS kits is very inaccurate, but when and if I ever get caught up I want to build the best one. What’s the difference in the two subtypes in 1:1, and what’s the difference in the kits? What’s the word on the alleged terrible inaccuracies with the cockpits? Any help on these questions would be appreciated.
TOM

The cockpits Hasegawa used in the A kits were the same molding from the D kit. There are some differences, but only an aficiando would notice. I think the major difference between a 5 & 8 is the upper cowl & gun blisters.

Aha: I’ll have to look those over, because it looks like Eduard found an excuse to sell the same frets under a different subtype label, and those 1/32 color frets are not cheap.
Thanks, Rick, and I’m going to drag all these out and check the differences between Eduard’s A-5 and A-8 frets, if there are any. Still, I looked at the instructions on the interior sets (three big frets each just for the cockpits) and they are definitely not for the faint of heart when it comes to bending lots of PE and carving up the plastic parts.

Thanks for the info. Think I’ll give the arii kit a try.

Squadron has a limited supply of the Trimaster 190D

Thanks Woodbeck3 I’m looking to build the A . I have the Tamiya D, though I am considering forking over the 40$ after seeing Pixalater’s posts about the Trimaster kit. Ron
