The 1/48 scale FM-2 model is a limited-run kit by Sword. It comes with a detailed resin cockpit and two injection molded canopies. The kit went together relatively easy with your normal “short-run” fit problems. There were some major apt problems with the landing gear carriage during instillation. Other then that everything went together unconstrained and was enjoyable build. I’ll probably build a F4F Wildcat and a Hellcat to go with FM-2 sometime in the future.
Sweet looking build! Hard to tell there were any fit problems at all. One comment if I may…the antenna wires look a bit thick. When you heat your sprue to stretch it, pulling the ends apart faster will give you a much thinner piece. Other than that, looks like you nailed it! [tup]
Thanks guys for the nice comments. I completely agree on the antenna wire being little thick. I’m going to try stretching some spur again and attempt to remake the wire. Before I wasn’t too sure how to stretch the spur but now with the helpful tip I think I can do it correctly. If I get it right I’ll add some picture of the before and after attempt. Thanks again![8D]
I agree, nice job. I use my daughter’s brown hair for the antenna wires. What was the problem with the landing gear? I have the Sword kit as well and wonder if it would be better to use the Tamiya gear parts.
The landing gear is only thing that gave I a major problem. Most of landing gear parts are soft and brittle and refused to fit correctly. The entire landing carriage was forbidden into the fuselage. I even thought about tearing it all out and scratch build one-but somehow I got it to work though.
The aircraft you see in the background is a twin Bf-109Z fighter-bomber painted in winter camo. Only one was built during World War II. I just had it in background so I could retake some pictures of it. You can see more pictures of it here
