First off hats off to you armor folks… I’m a flyboy doing the reverse build thing, doing Academy’s 1/35 Pkfw IV ausf H… I just need a little help, after attaching the myriad of parts to the upper hull (?) and getting the undercarriage on (not including drive wheels or any wheels for that matter)… when do I paint this sucker? I’m leaving the wheels off until I at least get a base coat of “Dunkelgelb” for a 1944 Italian campaign Panzer. Any help would be appreciated…
I personally have just about everything bar the wheels and some tools on before I paint. Wheels and tracks I do seperately. A lot of small tools and detail can be hand painted afterwards. This is something that a lot of people do differently, so hopefull y you will get a variety of methods, and you can choose one you feel comfortable with.
Matt is right. Nice thing about tanks is about everything is the same color… Leave off the wheels and tracks for access to the lower hull but other than that you can glue about everything on with a few exceptions… I usually leave off the jack and the barrel cleaning kit (pz IV / Pz III) to paint sep. Just because I can’t get all the way around them.
Good luck and I can’t wait to see some pics of your build…
You can do it however it feels comfortable to you. Many of the members do it as stated above, many more paint everything first than scrape and glue. I personally do a hybrid where I paint a lot of stuff first, but still do final painting after everything’s glued up.
Good luck and post pics when you can.
Thanks for the help folks… Looks like I’ll have some pics posted later on tonight… and be easy please… 10 years out of modeling, and only one kit to my credit so far…
