Flower Class Reference

Working on a 1/72 Platinum Revell kit, and through web research I’ve learned that about 250 of these ships were built for WW2 and no 2 seemed alike.

Camo, waterline color, super-structure design and color, decking matterials, armament and tech details all varied…making it tough to find enough info to pick one version to build with reasonable accuracy. Any idea on where I can find something fairly comprehensive? Not interested in rivet counting and radio antennae details, just the basics that work with the kit’s parts as is.

Heck, I cant even find a good image of the keel to verify if that long ridge was on the real ships or not, or is just to help hold the model together, esp for RC conversions.

Thanks!!

During the war, 9 had US crews. The NavSource website has some pictures and wepaons info on them.

USS BEACON (PG-88)

USS BRISK (PG-89)

USS HASTE (PG-92)

USS INTENSITY (PG-93)

USS MIGHT (PG-94)

USS PERT (PG-95)

USS PRUDENT (PG-96)

Useful references I obtained when building this model are:

man 0’ war 7 Flower Class Corvettes by Antony Preston and Alan Raven. (Arms and Armour Press)

Canada’s Flowers by Thomas G. Lynch

Corvettes of the Royal Canadian Navy 1939 - 1945 by Ken Macpherson and Marc Milner.

Gunshield Graffiti by Thomas G lynch and James B. Lamb.

Not sure how many are still available, but if you can find them they do give excellent information for detailing and camouflage.

John Lambert also authored a WARSHIPS PERSPECTIVE monograph on the FLOWERS. Tim

I second the suggestion of the Lambert and Brown book. Excellent book!
