Can anyone point me in any direction for Floquil Grimy Black, or something like it that paints just as well? ##F110013.

Polly Scale steam power black or engine black. But those are all out of production I think.
I just learned that Testors will drop their Floquil paint line very soon. This really sucks as Floquil paints are superior to anything out there. Too bad.
many people believe (wrongly) that there was a switch flipped and we can no longer get the paints
that is different than what Testors said in their message, they said they would “stop production when they used up the raw materials”
so, in the meantime, if the paint is on Testors site, you can get it directly from them, or from some online vendors, from some vendors on Amazon, and in person at a Hobby Town USA store (or any other store that uses Stevens Int’l as their wholesaler)

TarnShip, you were 100% correct. I couldn’t find it anywhere on the web, yet never figured to look on their own website. I checked out every hobby store in the area, including Walthers here in Milwaukee & nobody had any.
I ordered multiple bottles :). Thanks for the heads up. Also, is there any other colors for model planes that Floquil makes that you use?, maybe a White or Yellow? I love that paint that much.

I make a grimy black by mixing some tan into black before painting.
I use the Acrylics now, but, the Enamels follow almost the same guidelines
Soo Line Red is a dead on match for Insignia Red 11136
Reefer White is the best White I have ever seen for the underside of USN aircraft, because it is the bright White that was actually used, instead of the “spec white” that was called for, but not used
Burlington Northern Green is the closest we can get in Acrylics to Willow Green 14187
GTW Blue is a little bit darker than True Blue 15102 (it is about 15090)
and the old fashioned pre-Model Master solution for Light Gull Gray is still SP Lettering Gray,I still keep two bottles of that around all the time, because that plus the Reefer White lets me do a USN plane anytime I want to,even if I end up using someone else’s paints for the trim colors
I also keep bottles of Flat Aluminium and Stainless Steel around,they are some of the Acrylic Metallics that “just spray” without giving me any troubles
if you can find any, the Polly Scale Military #505017 Yellow RLM 04 is a very good 13538 Orange Yellow (some call it Insignia Yellow),I didn’t find the Railroad color that matches that yet,I have about ten more colors that I want to match up and buy at least 2 bottles of each, for Naval aircraft usage, 2 ounces of trim colors is nearly a lifetime supply

I take that back. I just got an order Cancellation from Testors for all the Grimy Black.
They are not offering it anymore.

It’s running out quicker than expected. Like I said, too bad, it was fantastic paint.
Try Micro-Mark. They sent out an email ad late last week saying they had plenty of Floquil and Polly Scale still in stock. Good luck, it is really good paint. I’ve already stocked up with what will hopefully be a lifetime supply. Been using it for 40 something years. Times may change but I’d rather not.

there must have been a run on the Grimy Black,I don’t see it at any of the places I see Floquil and Polly Scale,I did find a large number of vendors on Amazon and Ebay, though,but, I did not surf through them all looking for just Grimy Black
I can say that the guy selling Aeromaster on Ebay doesn’t seem to have any of the blacks in either Acrylic or Enamel lines (I use the Aeromaster as my main/cheap source)

Now that I truly know that there is no Enamel Grimy black anywhere on earth, Can you guys point me in a direction to a Flat Blackish paint that paints anywhere near the Floquil?

I can almost see a Seinfeld episode. Kramer buying a case of Floquil from “a guy” out of the back of a truck.
One of my PollyScale Military colors sources is almost like that now.
I have a friend that belongs to another forum, he started a physical hobby shop, coupled with an Ebay shop.
He was my LHS for four years (could have been five?), but, he just closed at the end of June,he had almost full racks of Tamiya, Model Master Acryl and Floquil/PollyScale Military,since he is a Tamiya and MM fan, he offered me a steep discount on any of the three ranges that I want,as long as I don’t buy them for resale
He closed his shop down, and moved it into an “Ebay shop” in a large storage shed near his garage,so, when I want paint, I go to his house and buy it out of his shed.

Last time I was at my local hobby shop, it was confirmed by the salesperson that the Floquil line is being discontinued, but we were also speculating that Testors will bring the colors back under a new Model Railroad line. Anybody remember the Colors by Boyd line of enamels? The paints are actually still being made and sold by Testors; they’re just not called Colors by Boyd. I just think the same thing will happen with the Floquil paints. (Hey, Testors had better come up with a replacement or all the model railroad builders will be coming at them with pitchforks and torches!)[:)]
@Jim. I was told the other day by the owner of an LHS (railroad) that Testors was switching the colors to MM. He didn’t like that, as he said Floquil was a much thinner paint. You’re right though, the railroaders are upset.
