Flight SB2C in holding pattern

Well, if it ain’t one thing it’s another. Ain’t that the truth. This build was much better than the Beechcraft 18 (JRB4), but the devil was in the decals with this puppy. As evidenced by the tear in the 7 of the 107 decal. [banghead]

This was an old kit and I should have coated the decals with Future, but it’s too late for shouldas. Anyway, this build is on hold until I can manifest some of my own replacement decals for the ones that dissintegrated (see post http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=16836). Essentially all the decals starboard side of the plane need replacing. But I know we all like to see eachothers work so here she is to date (88% complete) until, … well, I covered that already didn’t I.

I used the Eduard PE parts for the ProModeler version of this kit to add some more realism to this toy-ish kit. It fared well in the cockpit (i.e., sealtbelts) and gunner areas.

That’s Jimmy “Pokerface” Deluca at the guns.

Any responses to my other post in the Decal section of the forum or other suggestions for decal disaster recovery [:D] would be appreciated.

Next up F8F-1 Bearcat. Any pics of the ones that were enroute to the Pacific fleet when VJ Day prevented them from seeing combat action, again, [:D] would be appreciated.

cant help with the bearcat. but very nice pics.

Looking good so far. Shame about the decals but Monogram decals weren’t that good even when new. How did the wing fold pieces from the Devastator work out ?

Sweet job on an older kit! I tried to build a older Monogram F6F Hellcat and ditched it pretty quick. The Hasegawa one was SO much better; more detailed and easier to build. Good job and shame about the decals!

Forgot to include a pic of those wingfolds from the Devastator. Well, they didn’t fit very well, even after shaving them down, but they work. Could have used putty to make them more seamless, but I’m kinda tired of polishing terds, especially after the Beechcraft 18. Turns out a company by the name of KMC made a wingfolds kit for the SB2C ProModeler version. Couldn’t locate any for purchase though. So I went with the Devastator gates. Still waiting for those replacements from Monogram. And Revell/Monogram HQs are litterally 20 miles away from where I live. Probably gotta get them from Asia where all the casting has gone. Welcome to the global economy. That means something.[:D] Not a great pic of the gates, but you get the idea. Those holes were a challenge to drill and shape with a regular drill and needle files. “Dremel, Dremel, Dremel I made it out of plastic. And when it requires sanding with Dremel I will play.” Note to wife. B-day present idea.
