Flight of Cobras over NC

Hi all

Just wanted to pass along that I happened to catch a flight of three Cobras flying over Gaston County in NC this afternoon. They appeared to be painted in a grey scheme. They wre headed in a NW from SE direction. Anyone happen to know what they were up to?

Probably up to 1000’ AGL. 1K and below is the typical altitude for cross countries.

It never fails to make me stop and look up when I hear rotors overhead.

The other day I saw 3 -46s and 2 -53s circling around Lejeune. Looked to me like someone was practicing a helo raid. Lots of V-22s been getting flight time in lately, too.

Maybe those Cobras were headed out west to CAX or Yuma? Maybe? I’m a knuckledragger, not a 'winger.

I’ll bet that they were from MCAS New River in Jacksonville, NC (Across the Inlet from Camp Lejuene.) They were most likely going to Quantico, VA.

Semper Fi,

With the MAW’s in NC, one should see Marine aircraft buzzing around most of that State anyways. A Gunney friend of mine years ago, told me of a story when one day he was ankle deep digging for clams in the Bouge Sound, the scene was one of peace and quiet and suddenly out of no where’s a Harrier came flying low overhead like the proverbial Bat out of…! He said he now knew how the VC must have felt in a nam rice paddy. I myself never get tired of looking up at a passing military aircraft, a great sight!

We tend to get three ship flights stopping over usually around lunch here at BTR. Normally its three Whiskeys, ever now and then we get a couple of '46s dropping in. Had a OH58D with external mounts drop in last week (again lunch), lots of '60 action, and several Coasties a month.

Never gets too boring here
