Fleet Air Arm Group Build

[#welcome] Buddy! A lot of great folks 'round here. [tup]

I am staying at the Mirage, with most of my days spent at the Venetian and some time at Ceasar’s Palace. If you have never been to Las Vegas, you gotta go just to see it! I have heard the stories, but you really gotta experience it. It’s crazy here!!! [8-]

Nam- Unfortunately, I am jetting back via Denver, so won’t get to O’Hare on my return trip. Maybe next time! [:D]

Richie- Great work there mate! Looks like you’re on the home-stretch now!

bondo- I have never seen that one built before, look forward to the WIP pics! [tup]

[#welcome] Buddy! All around good mates here, and especially have fun!

Thanks Frank! Yep there’s a faint glow ahead. Still waiting for that other PE set then it will be a marathon me thinks.

Cheers, Richie

“Now hear this!”

Gentlemen, please give a warm welcome to our new A-7 driver- Buddy!

[party][party][#welcome][#welcome][#welcome][party][oX)][#toast]

“Hand Salute!”

Buddy, welcome to the crazy carrier that is the FAW Group build! Rules and regs are on page one-we are very glad to have you on board.[^]

Cheers mate![oX)][#toast]

Buddy, welcome abord.

Looking forward to seeing the A7 WiPs, I’m about to start building a USAF TAC A7D for the Mud Movers GB in another month’s time.

In the meantime, I’ve done some more work on the F14, she’s coming along nicely, I see huge flaws in what I’ve done after looking at Sim’s Stringbag (looking good by the way there fulla), but I thank you all for the kind words after my last posting of WiP pics.

It’s now after 0830 hrs on Tuesday here, so true to my word, I’ve crawled out of the Rum locker and released the lass to continue her duties of serving out the libations.

Thank you kilo! Starting to see the faint glow yes!

Cheers, Richie

Thanks for the welcome aboard, guys. Kilo 1-1 which kit will you be using, the Hobby Boss or the Fujimi? I’m doing an A-7P retirement scheme (based on the Fujimi A-7A) and an A-7H Tigermeet scheme from Hobby Boss for a club build in time for the US IPMS Nats. Don’t have much done on either yet, basically some painting in the cockpit and tail areas and gluing the wings together. The wings for the Hobby Boss went together so much better than the Fujimi. The E I’m building for this build is the Fujimi kit.

Buddy

Hi Sim, yeah it feels good when you see the light at the end of the tunnel on a difficult build.

I’m a bit that way with my Tomcat at this point, that thing has been fighting me all the way. LOL

Lewbud, yep the A7D for the other GB is the Hobby Boss one, I was dubious about buying it, but the people in my LHS let me take a peak in the box and I was sold. I’ve never seen the Fujimi Corsair II’s up close and personal although before buying the Hobby Boss one I was about to order a couple of the Fujimi kits (being as they are no longer available new) for my on-going Navy AC project and a USAF example, but now that the Hobby Boss ones are readily available it has given my wallet a bit of a breathing space. LOL I look forward to seeing your A7 though dude, it was always a favourite AC of mine.

You’re definately right about that kilo!!!

You getting cat scratch fever yet?[swg] From what I’ve seen your winning the battle mate!

Cheers, Richie

Sorry bondo I totally missed your post somehow! Was scrolling down and saw the Seagull and went, “Whats this?” [:O][:I]

Thank ye kindly for the tot, that hit the spot![oX)] Thank you very much for your compliment and the info on the collector ring. I often wondered about the color, but it’s right. Only thing I might do is tone it down a bit, too bright.

Can’t wait to see the ‘gull’ WIP pics. Lots of stuff hanging in the wind there. It was still faster than the ‘bag’ by about 30mph with 150hp less!

Cheers, Richie

Sorry for the delay!

LOL Yeah I think I might be getting cat scratch fever on it at this point. Worse thing is, I’m actually considering having another Fujimi Tomcat shipped to me at some point just so I can do a Lo-Viz bird with the wings in the full sweep position, and I’m a bit dubious on the likelihood of a Haswegawa kit and a Fujimi one looking good next to each other on the shelf. Guess that makes me a masocist?? LOL As for winning the battle with it, I don’t know if I’m winning the battle with the 'cat in as quite a stylish way as you are beating the Stringbag, but any win is a win at times. [;)] It’s nearly enough to make me want to go to building 1/48 scale things with propeller blades sticking out the front at times. LOL

Ok updates time. I’m nearly at the point of hitting the Tomcat with the first gloss coat.

Hi all,

Been here some time but this is my first post and seeing this GB has prompted me. I’d like to throw in here with a 1/48th scale Revell F18-E, if that’s OK?

Geoff

Geoff-

First, [#welcome] to the NAWGB, and to the forums! I am very excited to have you here, and look forward to seeing your Hornet. The Cap’n should be along shortly to officially welcome you aboard. [tup]

Again, welcome my friend! [:D]

Aaron- Great looking progress there, can’t wait to see more!

I gotta share a funny story with you fellas:

I was flying home last night, and my new flight (I was supposed to fly into Denver but our plane was busted so I returned on a different airline) took me through Minneapolis. I had read that they have the sole remaining A-12 Blackbird on display there, so I was asking everyone I could find at the airport where was this plane displayed. I finally found someone who knew what I was looking for, and directed me to the other side of the airport (of course!) to see it. Luckily, I had a couple of hours to I trekked over there to see it. WHen I rounded the corner elated that I would finally set eyes on this amazing aircraft, this is what I found:

How in the heck did these things get to mach 3? [%-)]

You had to pedal REEELY HARD.

Regards, Rick

Yes! [#welcome]Geoff! Hope to see some pics soon!

Frank, IF they do have an A-12, it wouldn’t be the only one as there is one at the Huntsville Space Museum or whatever its called. I saw it and could NOT believe it! At first I thought it was another SR-71 as we were walking up to the place. Before we had even gotten to it, I was already saying I didn’t think there were any of these left and told my brother in law what it was and what it did. He read the sign in front of it as I was walking closer to it and he just said, How’d you do that? lol

The other PE set for the ‘Bag’ I’ve been waiting for hasn’t been delivered from the producer to moduni yet and they don’t know when they will get them![:(!] So I might be waiting for awhile. I would tell them to cancel the order but it’s the only other set available for the 1/72 Swordfish other than the one I already have that doesn’t have as much as the one I’m waiting for. [sigh] lol sorry for waffling.

Cheers, Richie

Welcome Aboard Geoff![#welcome]!

Welcome home Frankie![party][8-][oX)][#toast]! You can probably find adventure anywhere!

I believe that what you saw was the obscure A-12 NT…(Nothing There) Known for great pilot visibility…conversely, radar waves passed right through it…the ultimate stealthy A/C! Problem was…the pilots got sterilized with every radar sweep!

…and that was mach .003!

ROTFLMAO!!! That is hysterical! [(-D][(-D][(-D]

Geof, welcome aboard I look forward to seeing your F/A18 progress.

Sim, sorry to hear about the hold up, I hate waiting for things to get shipped to me too, it’s like waiting for Christmas to come and it never does.

Frank, welcome back. Love the story, sorry to hear that it wasn’t an A-12 Blackbird. But let’s face it, it would have been cool to see one of those up close, but would your story have been anywhere near as funny, or have ellicited anything like the response you got from Nam, which was truly funny might I add. Also thanks for the kind words on the Tomcat from hell. [:)]

Geof, [#welcome] to the Forum and the NAWGB.

Nam, I LMAO

Good one Nam!!! [(-D](wiping tears)

Cheers, Richie
