Flaps up or flaps down?

yes I do - REALLY!

Wing flaps up. Cowling flaps open.

They found out I was a pilot when I was visting Kure and almost strapped me into an Ohka…

You never shoulda showed 'em that photo of you sitting in that Fi-103 Reichenberg talking to von Braun.

AS old as you are? You must of soloed in a Balloon,

He’s so old the flaps he is talking about are his arm flaps!

Most modern aircraft are parked with the flaps up. Every once in a while you will come to a jet that just came out of the wash barn and its flaps are down, or the previous crew forgot to run the after landing check!

It’s a model, and it’s your model, so build it the way you like. If you’re after historical accuracy, that’s a different matter; I can only, really, speak about WWII British a/c, and the Pilot’s Notes were specific on this point. Flaps were to be raised, immediately after landing, and before taxying. This prevented any tendency for the airflow to be interrupted through radiators, which could cause overheating, and stopped mud, etc., being thrown into the flap recesses and mechanism, which could cause jamming.

I agree that flaps down will give the plane a more “real” feel to it, however in my daily job on them we rarely have the flaps down unless they are being maintained or worked on.It is just another thing for the machanic to bump into and it hurts if bumped into, believe me!

I am busy with a 1.48 ICM P-51 and the flaps on this will be in the down position, no doubt.
