Here is my entry to the Towed Gun Group Build, a Tamiya 1/35 Flak 36/37 Gun. I built this kit out of the box (as usual) to simulate the Flak36 version of the gun. I did not make any adjustments to correct any flaw or inaccuracies of the kit except from the scratchbuilding of parts that I lost. I have previously showed the pics of the completed gun in the Towed Gun GB thread but this is the first time that I will be showing this in its completed form in a diorama.[;)]
I have seen a lot of dioramas of an 88 in or within the vicinity of the church. I somehow got interested in doing my own version of what seems to be already a “cliché” as far as 88 dios are concerned. Well I know that you have seen lots of dios like this already and I hope you don’t mind seeing another one. He-he-he.
I was previously planning to include a camouflage net tent for the gun but upon seeing how crowded it is now, I decided not to proceed with it.

The Base:
The base was basically scratchbuilt from readily available and ordinary materials. For reference, here are the materials I used:
Wooden Base: Chopping Board
Ground: Wall Putty
Church Ruin: Foamboard and Cardboard
Cobblestone Walk: Foamboard
Rubble: Smashed flower pot mixed with some stones
Turf: Woodland Scenics
Tall Grass: Old paintbrush

I may still add some details inside the church but that could come later.

WOW!!! Those are some of the best figures I’ve seen before! Gotta get that 88 kit, or maybe it just looks so good that it makes we want to get it right away! I like the church, it looks awsome! All around good job!!! Yeah, Shep Paine made an 88/church dio too, but it got disqualified at the Nueremburg toy fair because the jugdes thought it wasn’t tasteful or something like that… But Nice job, glad you had so many pics of high quality of a high quality dio! Great job!!!

Armor Master: Thanks for the nice words. The figures are actually not so great and looked funny. It’s a very old kit and the figures are not at par with say Dragon’s current ones but overall I think that it went well together. Just lots of tiny pieces though.
Amazing dio Dwight. Right up there with all your other quality builds. I really like the church and your attention to detail is incredible.

Well, I know the figures are awful (the molding-we have crisper and well-molded figs now) but I liked the paint job and shading/highlights. Overall good.
BTW: it’s Armormaster, but it’s ok-happens alot…
Sorry Ryan, I did miss that one. There, I corrected it already.
Anyway, I used Tamiya Field Grey Acrylic (darkened with a little Flat Black) as basecoat and drybrushed it with Artist’s Acrylic (in tubes). This is the first time I used artist’s acrylics for drybrushing because I thought that they were too thick. But I guess there is always a first for everything. Thanks.

AWSOME… I love the look of the 88s You have done wonderful with this old kit. It just goes to show that even an out of the box kit can look great. I like it all the weathering, the dio all of it… A+
You say the sidewalk is out of foam? Is that the dense carving foam? I have a bunch of that but have yet to try it out.
