I am building a B-17 and have attempted to put the fuselage together, but I ma havong trouble getting the nose to join without trying to force it together. Unfortunately I have manage to glue the rear of the fuelage together and still am having trouble like I said getting to nose together, Any suggestions or ideas
I assume that the parts are warped. You can try dipping them in near boiling water for a few seconds, then gently holding them together until they cool.
It is generally better to test fit and resolve such problems before applying glue…as you now know
You may find that something very small is preventing the closing. Check and see if you can identify if one edge of the floor pieces is more prominent than the others. Some sanding in an area or two may may fix it. I had that happen recently with a Spitfire, and it turned out the very bottom corner of the lower part of the rear firewall was bumping up to the wing. A little sanding and it went right on.
I would not use boiling water if the fuselage is warped. I tried that once and the part was ruined. I would try warm water and work slowly.
I have the same kit & I am wondering if you are doing it out of the box (OOB) or are you using the True Details Cockpit & Bombadier’s sections instead? I tend to agree with the fact there’s something sticking out somewhere that needs to be sanded down. Especially with the true Details sets.
A few people have alluded to this already, but if the cause is indeed found to be warpage, I cannot stress enough that the water is NEAR boiling, not actually boiling…you’ll melt/ruin the plastic if it’s boiling.
As a side, post pics once you get to a good update point. I love seieng the B-17’s.
Thanks, Mucker—meant to re-emphasize that myself!
