First try at posting pics/ My dragon Ferdinand

Hopefully this worked .

Very cool! I really dig that skull and X bones on the slope…pretty sinister. The cammo is nicely done as well…nice touch on the recognition panel as well.

SC

VERY nice! The subtle camo is well done–is it green? It’s hard to tell…

Is that skull from the old A7V kit? I swear I’ve seen that before on an A7V!

Great job! Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

…your pics don’t do the model justice…they are a little dark and grainy, but from I can see looking good! Is the skull artistic license or can it be backed up by refs?

awesome job 88. looking spectacular. the skull and crossbones is super

Damn, that is one nice kit. I really love the camo. I always strive to achieve something similar, but always end up with far too much contrast between the colours. Very well done.

Thank you very much everybody for the nice comments. I’ve been lurking in the shadows of this forum for about a year now , sporadically making praises or asking questions. After admiring so much nice work, I finally got the guts to throw mine out there. Obviously I’m not the best at taking photos( first time playing around with my girlfriend’s christmas present). To answer your questions : The camo color is tamiya dark green sprayed lightly, and the skull and crossbones is a decal that came with the kit( the original dragon ferdinand , not the premium edition). I’ve never seen any photographic evidence of this marking , but it does look kind of cool, even though it probably would make a real good target for anti-tank gunners. Unfortunately I don’t have the instructions anymore, I think the markings diagram made a reference to this vehicle being part of the 653rd can’t remember anything else. Thanks again

Your model looks nice to me, (I still`ve two unbuilt kits in my “forbidden” room in my basement) , and especially your tracks are imposing. Did you bother making zimmerit ? Nice "Panserjager"as we call them here in Norway. Trond.

Really like it. I’ve never seen the crossbones and wonder where Dragon dug that up from. In addition to the excellent camo, how did you do your tracks?

Hope to see more of your inspiring work.

Well, it’s certainly an excellent build, Panzer88. Really cool looking camo, too. Great job all around.

That is simply awesome! [tup]

Great job, panzer 88. Don’t worry about authentic reference pictures. I challenge the reference obsessed to come up with evidence proving the skull and crossbones didn’t exist. It really sets the the whole thing off and looks dang good. I don’t think it would make a difference for a gunner’s aiming point, an anti-tank gunner usually just aimed for the center of mass in a target, not a particular point.

I believe I have at least one (possibly two pictures) of that Ferdinand with the skull and crossbones. I’ll post it this evening when I get home from work. [:-^]

Very nice work on the Ferdinand. The background for the pics is pretty distracting though. Might want to pick up a large sheet of construction paper to use as a background. I find a light blue color works well for most models. As far as the skull & crossbones graphic, a similar decoration was widely used during Operation Barbarossa. Maybe the crew was trying to resurrect memory of past glory.

Here’s a sample pic using the plain background & a Stug III with the Skull & Crossbones graphic.

Regards, Rick

As promised… The picture quality isn’t all that great, mostly due to the inferior paper used in the book. [sigh] I also cropped just the skull out of one high res scan so hopefully that makes it a bit easier to see.

I’ll be darned. Thar she blows.

Scott, you are turning into the Ferdy Meister. Im looking forward to Elefact of the day.

…Guy

Thanks again for all the kind words, really appreciate it.[:D] I’ll definitely try to post some more stuff . Tigerman regarding the tracks, I assume you’re asking about the dirt in the recesses of the track links. I used some real fine dirt mixed with woodland scenics scenic cement( the white liquid that comes in a spray bottle). I poured some dirt in a little cup and mixed in the cement and also added a little static grass, then when all mixed in good I took an old stiff bristled brush and dabbled into the tracks recesses. I also dabbled this mixture all over the running gear and lower hull. To finish off the tracks I actually used tamiya weathering powders lightly , brushed on the links.

Outstanding build and paint job.[tup][tup]

Kudos to Scott for pulling the pic!! I wish I could chaulk it up to a little Nevada luck, but somehow I think that is wishful thinking!!

And double kudos to Panzer88 for posting!! (I’m still working up the courage)
