First time going to an IPMS show

Hey guys,

Yesterday was the IPMS Montreal Model Meet. Also known as my first model contest ever! It was a blast! I entered 5 models and 3 got gold and 2 got bronze! I also won 1st and 2nd place in my category (Junior armor)! In my junior class there were about 50 armor models.

Here is a pic of the models entered (they are on a shelf in my room).

During the show there were also A LOT of vendors so i went nuts. This is what I came out of there with.

All of that for 30$[Y]

Two of them are armor models !

If you cant really read it, the first is a Dragon 9046 Panther ausf g. The second Dragon 6013 JSU-122. Do you guys have any comments on these? Or any suggested AM parts for them?

Thanks,

Congratualtions and welcome to the world of IPMS! Well done! After a positive first experience like that I m sure that you will be back for more

Congrats on the medals and the model haul! [B]

[Y][Y][Y][Y][Y] one for each medal nice work !

Nice. I remember my first…

Thanks for all the kudos guys !

Much appreciated !

Very cool! congrats!

The key to going to the contests sounds simple but always doesn’t take place: go and have fun!

I recall helping at one show many years ago. One guy had brought in the old 1/48 B-17G and B-24J bombers from Monogram. They were clearly his pride and joy but it was also clear he was very novice builder/painter. At this show, during the awards presentation, all 1-2-3 awards were announced (rather than being placed by the models like some shows do). When the 1/48 multi engine category came and went and this guy got no awards, he began fuming. He angrily grabbed his boxes, made a big deal of packing his planes up and stormed off while the rest of the awards were going on.

Frankly, he suffered the same self-delusion that is highlighted in American Idol auditions – “I’m wonderful and can do no wrong and everyone will know it!” I just had to shake my head – if he’d really just opened up his eyes and looked at the other models and/or asked how others built to a higher skill level, I think he’d really enjoyed himself. As is, his lack of awards ruined his day – but he was destined to fail.

Congrats on the wins and the haul!

Congrats on nice looking work

Let me add my congrats. great feeling hearing your name called isn’t it? But I have to agree with Roy… go and have fun. The awards are just perks

Clay

That’s some nice work you have, but I’d some closer pictures if you have any. You should feel very proud earning those awards. All that hard work paid off.

Ben323: Congratulations!!! Winning awards for something you love to do feels great huh? Contests are great for scoring some new items for the stash too…$30 bucks for all that is awesome!

Contests are a great way to learn/ share too…I hope you had the chance to chat with some fellow modelers.
