First Time Aircraft Modeler

I think i would have been peeved off as well, and i am the sort that throws loads of AM at most of my models.

In this hobby, you generally get what you pay for. Yes, there are cheap kits that are well detailed, and expensive kit where you wounder what they are charging you for. but my general rule is to compare all the kits in the same scale, and you can generally work out how well detailed kits are.

You know…disappointed just about sums up my experience with every Academy kit I’ve ever touched. They seem to thrill in not really investing much into the interiors of their kits.

I’d highly recommend reading reviews, checking out sprue shots and finished builds of any kit before you buy it.

Also…if you’re looking for a good, cheaper model to try your skills out on, might I recommend the Revell 1/48 F-15E Strike Eagle? Inexpensive, but it’s supposed to be one fantastic kit.

To be fair Doogs, while they may not invest much, the model builder also doesn’t have to invest much. Their kits are on a par with Airfix equavlant kits when it comes to price, and we wouldn’t expect much from them when it comes to interious.

thank you Doogs,

i will check the reviews for this kit. i was also given an italeri 1/48 a-10 ( one of my favorite planes) but with a decal cockpit again. i checked for AM cockpits and/or detail sets but they are a bit on the expensive side for me ( on top of the existing model price). the RMX 1/48 F-15 is 25$ online up here in the great white north.

now, i’ve been using Tamiya Acrylics for quite a while now, but they don’t have any matching FS type colors. which other acrylic paint ( gunze, mm, valejo) is similar enough to the tam as far as ease of use and coverage?

again, thank you everyone for all your help.

The only Academy kit I recommend is their 1:48 F-22…it was a dream to put together and a stunner when complete.
