Hello!
I have recently re-discovered how much fun it is for me to build plastic models. I had not built one in over 30 years until this December, when I did a 1/48th Tamiya “Easy 8”. That kit got me so excited that I rushed to Hobby Lobby and picked up three more tanks, all 1/35; Monogram’s M48A2, Tamiya’s M41 Walker Bulldog and a T55 from Lindberg. I’m not much of a painter/detailer (yet) but I sure do like gluing stuff together!
I grew up in a mom-and-pop hobby store in Central Washington State. Back then, I remember the top of the line kits were Tamiya and Italeri for armor and Hasegawa for Aircraft. Its nice to see all three companies still in business, along with some names I don’t recognize. I also very much looked forward every month to the magizines from Kalmbach.
This leads me to a couple of questions.
Who makes kits I should avoid? I didnt like the Monogram kit I mention above. That mold is from 1966 and the parts do not fit together well at all. I will be very hesitant to purchase another Monogram kit.
Who makes kits I can count on to be good? I had not heard of Lindberg kits, and I was pretty pleased with the T55’s assembly. Right now I’m not too worried about how historically accurate kits are, I just like to glue stuff
What are some good places I can source models and supplies? There are tons of online stores, what are some of your favorites?
Last question - Have you seen Moose and Squirrel?
Peace-
Boris
