After 5 model builds, I’ve mustered up enough confidence submit my sixth model as my first picture post. This is a 1/48 Tamiya P-51D build almost OOB. An Eduard interior set was used, too.
As a WWII bird fanatic, a Mustang was a must. What promted the Chuck Yeager plane was that my 6 yr. old son’s ceiling fan is the nose and proeler blades of the Glamerous Glen III (replica, of course). He thinks it’s neat, but still prefers jets. In the future. I’d like to build an earlier Allison version. I’ve got my eyes on an Accurate Miniatures kit, but need to finish a few kits that I have in storage to keep the wife off my back!
Also, this was my first attempt at Alclad II. Many thanks to Swanny and other out there for your valuable input. Other than a small patch of orange peel under then nose, it came out OK. There are a few small finishing touches I’ve noticed that need to be done, but I couldn’t wait to place it on the shelf.
Your comments and critique are invited, as they can only help me to improve.
Yes, I have to admit, the invasion stripe decals gave be problems. Some of the hidden areas of the decals came out poorly, as I overlapped some small edges. I thought about painting them on, but gave in to the challenge of the large decal on a multi-faced surface. Since the picture, I’ve added the antenna mast and painted the wing-tip lights red and green, and wiped the smudge from under the “Y”.
The alignment of the propeler baldes was also a challenge.
Tankmaster, I appreciate your comment on the decal. At some point, when I feel confident enough, I would like to submit an entry or two in a local competition. Your sharp eye (from only a photo!) helps direct me to what judges will be looking at.
