first pic of return to modeling

here is my somewhat completed Revell ME262 1/72 scale; this is the first plastic kit i’ve built in many years (except a few railroad structures). probably my best effort ever; however, i learned a lot from building this and tried some new techniquest (such as wash and drybrush). still see lots of little areas to improve with the next model. that’s what makes it fun

hope these links work:

any suggestions welcome. i’ve got a P51 in the works now (Revell kit 1/72). This will probably be my last 1/72 scale - too small; i will build a 1/48 corsair after the P51 (tamiya kit).

gw.

Looks good for a first build after a long lay off. Keep em coming.

Regards, Rick

Looks good, but I have never seen that camo before anywhere… unless it is a what if build. Like I said, pretty nice build.

Looks great! Welcome back to the world of wingy thingies!

Mark

Very nice…thanks for sharing.

Very nice job, GW!! Congrats!! - Calvin

Well that certainly is different. Keep em coming.
It’s kinda like that song, “you can check out any time you like but you can never leave”
Bwahahaha

I don’t reckon I’ve ever been able to check out! [}:)]

Great comeback Gary, welcome back! [:)]

Take care,
Frank

very interesting camo, like others have asked, is there a history behind it? Welcome back to the hobby

Looking good, particularly since it’s your first build in a while. It far exceeded my first aircraft effort upon returning to modelbuilding after a long layoyoff. Regardless of right or wrong on the camo scheme, it looks to be nicely applied.

On your underside shot, it looked like you lost a panel line in the front, near the seam between the fuselage haves, presuambaly while sanding to eliminate the seam. One fairly easy technique to eliminate that is to periodically rescribe and deepen the panel lines as you are sanding. You can buy a dedicated scribing tool, or the tip of a no.11 blade dragged backward works almost as well. If you carefully rescribe periodically before the lines are completely sanded away, you can simply trace along the existing line.

Welcome back to modeling!

Andy

Nice job!

I’ve recently gotten back into plastic modeling also. Been doing mostly 1/144 scale, but I think I will have to move up in scale. My eyesight isn’t what it used to be.

thanks for the comments; about that camo… it’s an original (as if you couldn’t tell). no history behind it. just a very rough (but inaccurate) representation of what was on the box. i’ll do better next time - that’s one of the things i learned.

thanks for the tips about the re-scribing. i’m being more careful on my next model and have needed a lot less sanding and been more careful about sanding away the detail.
this forum is great for learning all kinds of useful techniques.

thanks again,
gw
