first model finished pics

ok… so I’m more than a little dissapionted with this end product. It was going so well until those darn decals… so I got creative and tried scathbuilding some rbf tags which i didnt mark I know… and i got the piont across on the weapons but didnt detail them due to the finished look??? I guess were gonna call this guy done and start another. I’ve learned alot in this build thanks for your comments and tips I’ll be sure to try them all on my F-5A. final thoughts?

It looks very good! I’d like to do one of these sometime soon myself. Great panel-line highlights. As for the decals, I used to have the same problem. The best way to take care of them and give them the appearance that they are painted on is to–prior to applying them–give the model a coat of future. This allows a great, shiny surface for the decals to adhere to. I’ve even dipped the decals in future before applying them and they adhere well (sometimes even over a flat finish). After you get the decals on, give things a chance to dry and then apply a coat of flat finish. I’ve used Model Master Clear Flat with great results. I’ve tried painting these coats on, but they certainly look better airbrushed/sprayed on. I look forward to seeing more of your work!

Ditto what he said on the Future but a great clean paint job.

Looks to be 1/48 scale.

Which kit?

Very nice first effort. The decals certainly let you down, but overall not bad at all.

It looks way better than my first model.[;)] You may want to use a decal setting solution, such as Micro Set, to help settle the decal film down into the paint surface. I agree with the above posts on using a clear gloss coat before decalling. It makes a bid difference.

wildcard2,

You have nothing to be disappointed with here, especially for a first effort! You might want to try soaking the canopy/clear parts in Future next time, it makes all the difference in clarity. I use Micro Set and Micro Sol on every decal job, then coat with Future to seal them. After that has set well, a coat of Testor’s Dull Coat finishes it out. IMHO, you have done very well here, and most importantly, as you siad, you learned a lot! Thanks for sharing your work, I’ll be looking forward to seeing more from your workbench!

I wouldn’t be disappointed in your effort. You did a great job with some tough decals. I think you’re on the right, especially your comment about “learning a few things” from this build…that’s what it’s all about. WIth each build try something new, such as a learned technique. Work to improve your own personal skill set in areas you feel you could use some improvement. And as always…have fun and post pics of your next builds!

Nice Warthog!

Keep on keeping on. Looks great and it only gets better.[tup]

academy, 1/72nd

thanks

I remember your 1st photos and the colours looked very bright. I think its come out not too bad at all. Id be proud of this one. The ordinance doesnt appear to have come out too bad either. I initially thought this was 1/48 but now realising its 1/72 [tup]

Keep it up man, If this was your 1st build, your off too a quality start.

Well done.
