Well, here’s a few shots of my (second) first model. It’s been probably 20 years since I last completed a model, and when it was done back in those days, it meant it was time for some battle damage!!!
Anyways, all OOB. Open to comments, criticism, tips, advice, etc, and so on and on n on.
Looking good! [tup] I like the nice even smooth finish, no silvering of the decals that I see. Well done.
Curiosity (normally kills me anyway) what kit did you use and scale?
One thing I will offer as a tip. On the front windscreen you can see the outline/reflection from the bottom of the plastic. Something to try on your next kit is to lightly paint the bottom of the piece black. That will stop the light from making it look like that.
Looks like one war-weary bird! Nice to see one of those NMF’s without that factory fresh sheen.
…and ditto about the windscreen. If you paint the edge of a clear part with the same color as an adjacent panel, it really gives the illusion of scale thickness to the clear part.
Kit is the 1/48 Revell/Monogram. And that IS a great tip. I noticed what you are talking about earlier, but didn’t know there was that simple of a solution! Thanks!!!
That’s definitely one war-weary bird. Someone needs to talk to her crew chief about a wash 'n wax job! I don’t know how realistic the weathering is on the NMF, but I like how it looks. Nice job on the build!
First… Very nice job ! That’s one Mustang that looks like it’s “been rode hard”. I like it !
After reading the other posts about the windscreen - I was thinking… You might be able to thin down some black or olive paint, use a very small brush, and capillary action might pull some paint onto that surface. It’ll depend on how well that surface was coated with whatever adhesive you used. Just a thought.
THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR THE KIND WORDS!!! I knew I wanted to go with a dirty, just got back from kickin some a** kind of look, but is it too much? Too dirty/grimy? I know it’s a matter of opinion, but if the popular opinion is “too much” then I know what to do next time. This was also my first time at weathering so I was pretty much experimenting and learning on this one. I suppose they all involve a bit of learning.
As for the windscreen, it is just barely on there with some Testor window glue, so I think I’ll pop it off there and throw some flat black at it.
It’s not 100% finished, so I’ll finish’r up and post more and better pictures. Any tips for weathering the glass a bit? It’s much too clean compared to the rest of the plane. I was thinking a real fine mist of some color through the airbrush, but what color?
