First jet engine aircraft.

Skipper build remind me that I have a F-86 Sabre waiting in my stash, origanily it too was going to the contest, but its too late now. I got this one from a air museum in Nanaimo B.C and it look like a perfect kit to start again jet engine aircraft (my dad use to buy me airfix model, usally 1/144 scale, but that was back when I thought models were toys) many of them today are going to the scrap yard.

Anyways, I’ve started a bit, assemble the wings, and painted some interieur parts, the model looks simple and better qualitiy that the p-38 i did, but I’ll try keeping this one clean and better.

I just want some tips and trick on working on jet engine aircraft, speciflicly this model.

The most important thing with this aircraft, in mind, is that odds are, it is going to be in NMF. This means that you’ve got to make every seam disappear. Focus on the basics (fit, filling, and sanding) on this one and she’ll be down right pretty. Good luck!

For this specific kit, check this out:

HTH!

Silver paint in the rattler.

Or you could do it as one from the Connecticut Air National Guard. They wore a SEA camo scheme.

Hi T-Rex, welcome to the world of things with wings on [:)]
The Sabre kit may not be a toy, but it’s a model, not a replica, do your best, learn as you go along as we all do, when it’s done you’ll know all the things you didn’t do right, so you fix that when you have a bash at the next. The fun part is working out how to do something, and getting it right [8-]
Good luck.

If I may highjack the post for a question to roadkill.
Do you have any pics or references that show a Sabre in the SEA camo ?
I rather like that idea [8D]

I remember them from an old Wings magazine article. I’m sure they’re posted on the web somewhere.

Here’s a neat little Italian display aircraft from Wikipedia.

Alright, thanks for the info.

But I have just finish a P-38 not long ago so i’m no stranger to propellers aircraft, but not jet engine aircraft.

Already i’ve fill in gaps between the wing and sand the tail and airbrush the inteuir green on some parts of the aircraft. But the cockpit isn’t green, I beleive its neutral grey right?

Actually IMHO it’s incredibly ugly:

A lot of these, particularily late in life, woulda been painted silver, so my offhand comments about silver spray is ok.

T-rex don’t get wound up about the minds eye image of four shades of gleaming silver metal, yes we all lust for it but that’s way up there.

Testors Mettalizer in the rattler works well, as does the basic silver and chrome. Alclad is good, but the learning curve is at least three or four chuckits.

Hi there bondoman,
Thanks for the link,
Just wanted to see something ‘other’ than the silver with the yellow stripe type.
Nah, ugly is ‘Wvyern’ ‘Barracuda’ ‘Roc’… LOL
Given me some ideas though, thanks for the interest.
All the best,
Mick C.
