This is my first try at modeling Armor, Its a 1/35 Tiger Tamiya. Costed about 25 dollors, Its taken me 5 mouths to get it all down. The major thing that I mess up is the Zimmert coating, trying out different ones on scrap paper I got a good pattern down. But I didn’t use that one, I make a bigger and rougher coat. So to me thats the only major mess up.
I painted on the main hull and turret dark yellow, then I use my new airbrush and painted on a mix of flat tan and light brown. Then I free hand painted dark green in areas over the tank, when I try’d to add the three’d color feld gray, It looks almost the same as dark green, but you can still see it. Heres some pictures of my tank. Tell me what you think?
A good effort for your first armor and zimmerit no less. Not sure what you are implying here about the green. Anyway, nice job on the Tiger. I concur with you on the scale of the zimmerit, a bit thick for the scale. It looks like you did the screwdriver method with a large flat end. I believe 3mm is in 1/35 scale. Camo looks good though with nice touches of mud. I’m not sure about the mud skirts on the left side, they are kind of all over the place. I assume you ment to have them bent or something? Anyway, thanks for sharing.
Thanks guys,
I did use a 5mm screwdriver for the zimmerit, which I should had used a 3mm. The kit did come with a tank commander, an mg42 with mount, and I need to some how make a antenna. My next model that has zimmerit, I’ll make sure it turns out better.
i think it takes big ones to zimm your first armour build and it dont look bad at all i also went heavy on my first and only zimm job to date and to be honest it may look a tad out of scale but the roughness of it also looks kinda cool i think you did great on this tiger well done.
Thanks biffa,
Yes I know, the zimm work was made rough and out of scale. But it was my first armor, the next one that has zimm will look better. Im thinking of doing a Geman Panther.
No im just saying that, the next tank that has zimm I’ll do better at it [;)] I picked Panther beause, the one in the Patton Museum looked so kool and big!
Nice paint job. Did you actually hand painted the dark green areas? It looks like airbrushed.
I ust say that tiger I zimmerit is a tough job, comparing to Tiger II or a Panther. Tiger I has alot of obstacles (mainly in the front and rear, both turret and hull) on your way while applying zimmerit. Normally, I apply zimmerit using a small and fine plastic saw. This saves me alot of time before the putty dries, coz the only putty available around my area is Tamiya putty, which dries amazingly quick.
Overally, I think your Tiger is a good job. I enjoyed the photos especially the ones that the Tiger is “coming” out from a “channel”.
I did airbrush the main colors on the out side, I tryed the regural putty with the turret and it didn’t want to stick, so I used drywall sheet rock. It works just as good. When I can find a dry spot outside my house im going to put my tiger out in some flat dirt and take pictures of it. Along with the “coming” out from a “channel” look with the big rock bricks [;)].
