Looks like there’s a good ammount of interest in this so I put in a little thought…
Even if a sponser could be procured, it wouldn’t be worth it for the logistics. These kits should be under $10 everywhere right? Every company makes one.
Has to be a Tiger I. Anything else is up to you; Travel treads without side skirts, blown up, factory fresh, camo 'til tuesday, whatever you please.
Has to be OOB. This just seems real cool to me. If you want to get creative, you have to use the sprues, undersides, whatever to create the effect.
Has to be all done in 24 hours. Open the box to submission in a 24 hour period. I think this will give some flexibility if needed but still be be under the gun.
August 8 is far enough away and during the summer late enough to not interfere with school or vacations and it’s a Sunday as well. 24 hours will be in your timezone on that date. Think of a pic of an unopened box on top of the front page of your local paper dated August 8, 2004, cool huh?
Maybe FSM would be interested in doing a piece on it, or even judging the results, ie. most accurate, wildest, historically correct, best overall build, suggestions on this will help.
For those who don’t have space for 1/72 amongst your 1/35. I was going to suggest everyone send their finish builds to Shermanfreak afterwards. Imagine his expression if a new Tiger showed up in his mailbox every day for a month!
This is one day! International! it won’t interfere with other group builds.
Just do it.
Ummm…are we supposed to ‘actually’ finish this Tiger in 24 hours? I guess I could look at this like the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Can we switch builders after 5-6 hours of work, just like in the car races? In 24 hours if I’ve opened the box and looked at the parts I’d be doing well.
One problem from your original post concerning taking a picture of the unopened box with the 8 August newspaper. I would think that most papers won’t be on the streets at 12:01 on 8 August and I’ll need ALL 24 hours for this build. How about a picture of the unopened boxes with the weather channel or some other program showing the date and time in the background?
I meant SEND THEM TO YOUR HOUSE, not pictures.[;)]
PS. your sig doesn’t show the fifteen or so Shermans it took to wear down the Tiger and crew. They were probably having lunch under a tree when the plane got there tank.
This isn’t intended as a Group Build that will be followed, just a one day shot then the fun of the results. I will update occasionally to keep up interest and catch some others who may miss this thread. If the list is large enough, maybe we will attract attention elsewhere. So far:
Tigerman, a late production would certainly qualify, but zimmerit in a day might be tough. Give it a shot.
Dwight-Ta-ala, I don’t want to make this overly controlled and hope it doesn’t seem that way. I just think it’s sort of cool to have it all the bare minimum, like a modeling survival course, small size, no time, no AM and see what happens. If you really want 1/35 I don’t want to exclude you, but remember, it’s one day. I’m not sure what comes out of this is something that most will want to add to a collection. There’s gonna be a lot of shortcuts I’m sure.
Maybe it won’t be the best looking model I have ever built, but it will get a special place in my collection because I think it will be the most fun I have ever had in terms of modeling.
Im realy looking forward to this.
Ausf…has all this started because I suggested a "group call in sick to stay home and model day " … Wow, it was only meant as a fun remark, but you have realy gotten things organized and I think we can pull it of.
Hey good job Ausf, my name wasn’t massacred the first time around on the list (If your in the D-day GB you know what I mean-sorry rebelreenactor, I had to say it!)[:D] Sounds awsome Ausf![8D] I’m thinking a late-pro tiger with zim just like Tigerman. Zimmerit sounds good, but in one day? Hmm have to think about it…
