First 1/48 Scale (First post)

The next model I plan on building will be a WWII bomber in 1/48 scale. I’ve just gotten back into the hobby and would like suggestions on what aircraft I should build. What do ya think ?? I don’t have any preference as far as alies or axis. Not sure what’s available in that scale though. A PBY would be cool. Let me know what’s a good kit to build. Steve

I agree with the PBY. I believe Monogram makes a good kit of that in that scale. =)

Yes a PBY would be nice but in British markings.

VAPGULFVET hi[:)] and welcome to the forums!!

a brit PBY would be cool i agree, but swanny is that a good build for your first one back? if so, cool!![8D]

You might want to cosinder one of Accurate Miniatures B-25 Mitchell’s, which are arguably the best 1/48 scale bomber kits available. If you want to wait (maybe quite a while) Trumpeter has announced a 1/48 scale Wellington for 2004.

hello everybody! i just joined today (see the goof on my fist msg.) i recall when i first came back to model building, my first one was monograms b-25j in 1/48 scale its a very forgiving kit hope this helps!

I saw the way the 1/48 Monogram PBY looked, and it was very nice! THe PBY is a good subject, but it takes up a lot of room (wing span almost equal to that of the B-17). If you are going to build a Brit PBY, why not try a costal command PBY-5 so swanny’s Fortress I has some company? [:)]

Oh, and welcome to the forums, VAPGULFVET and P51mustang!! [:)]

Revell has a 1/48th Martin B-26 Marauder out. That would be a good one to start with.

Welcome back to the hobby, VAPGULFVET!!! You’re gonna love it here!![^][:D][8D]

Hello VAPGULFVET and [#welcome] to the forums. Thats a tough question as to what 1/48th scale bomber to start with. If it were my decision i would have to say the B-25 Mitchell due the amount of kits out there and some really great ones to start off with, especially from Accurate Miniatures. Hope to see you around the forums, Bryan

Hey Vapgulfvet & P51mustang;
well welcome aboard and have fun here, as for the first build I’d go with a modern jet fighter like the Ole Hawg A-10A, just kiddingbut really a great kit to start out with would be a the Revellograms (Revell/Monogram) ME-262 it has good detail, easy to build, and there is very little fit problems and their cheap too compaired to the Tamiya’s (but they are the cat’s meow in this scale)

hi p51mustang,

Although not a “bomber” per se, the Revell/Monogram Ju-52 Tante Ju builds into an impressive model, and its an easy build with teriffic fit.

Phil Schenfeld - and this is even concidering that I don’t build nazzie stuff!

A big welcome mate!
I agree with the gentlemen above who’s suggesting the PBY.
Why not build one as a Black Cat?

A PBY Black Cat is a nice subject… i mean, where else can you mess with weathering like that?!? [:)]
