Big moment tonight. I fired up my old Badger 200 airbrush tonight for the first time in over 20-25 years. Coming back to modeling after several years it’s a whole new learning process again.
I actually bought this model (USS Cole) over a couple of years ago and just this past summer dedicated more time to assembling the ship. Putting paint to the ship is a big step.
By FSM standards my USS Cole doesn’t quite cut it. But I’m fairly happy with the first shot of gray on the ship. Gotta go back and sand out a couple spots and I definitely need better lighting when I airbrush.
I’ve subscribed to FSM for years and know what a good model looks like, but I’ve got to let my perfectionistic tendencies go and just enjoy the process of learning thru my mistakes.
My sons been on the USS Cole for 2 1/2 years and making this model means a lot to me. It brings me a little closer to him. He’s a Boatswains Mate and serves on the ships Color Guard. When he’s home on leave next month, It’ll be fun showing him what I’ve gotten done so far.
Welcome back and thank your son for his service! BTW, when you mentioned the USS Cole of course the first thing that comes to mind was the bombing. I assume your building her undamaged and not as a diorama.

I bought my first one (now have 3 ??!?!?!) when I recently got back in the hobby and could finally afford them. Now, I just have to figure out how to use them. Two are Badgers and one is an iwata.

I saw the Cole at one of the smaller shipyards in Norfolk a couple of months ago when I was sailing with some friends… Being a former Navy yardbird, I am used to seeing this ship, but the people who I was with had never seen her in person. They were visibly moved to be in her presence.
Welcome back! I also use a 200, but it has been in virtually continuous use since I got it about forty years ago. Even still on my original needle! Only parts I have replaced are the teflon head seals.
Another thankyou from me to your son please. I understand how you feel as my daughter is in the AirForce. But surely you know that we require pictures here? Lets see that ship!
