Well, after many months of construction, and a very lazy painting process, I’m calling this one done. Took me three months to build, and a relatively short
time to paint, which shows, as it got very sloppy. Oh well, learned a lot in the process, which I’ll apply to the next one.
This one is a Tamiya T-55 with a basic Voyager PE update set (small details, and fuel drums in rear are all PE). Modelpoint antenna, RB barell, and Fruil tracks.
Many small nuts and bolts, fuel lines, fenders and brackets built in wine bottle foil and styrene.
All comments welcome. Its become clear to me that I really need to start taking more care in painting. I just got way too lazy after a long build.
Very nice job! The weathering looks very good as do your figures. I really like how you put it into a diorama of an approaching river crossing too…well done![Y]
I think you’re being way to hard on yourself Zoran. That’s a beautiful build. The only thing that stands out are the super rusted spare links. They (to me) just seem overdone compared to the rest of the build. The tank is perfect overall.
The base with the leaves floating on the water is excellent.
Apart form what Eric already mentioned re. the spare track, it is a thing of beauty. Great job on a great kit of a great vehicle on a great base. Can you see where I’m going with this[;)]
Thanks very much for the kind comments guys, they definitely are an encouragement.
Eric, I think I agree with you on the spare track links; after taking the pictures, no matter the lighting conditions I went with, they just jump out and scream, even more so than the completely rusted exhaust; will have to see if I can remedy this.
Disastermaster, yes, I have to say that this is in fact the most extensive detailing project I’ve undertaken. I used to scoff at the ‘research’ aspect of modeling. lol, call it a lack of maturity on my part. For this T-55, I had a whole binder full of pictures and other references, and the more of the tiny details I could add, the more satisfaction I got out of it. I think a whole new world of modeling has opened up for me after this! [:)]
Nice work on this one Zoran, the dio setting is a nice touch as well as you don’t often see Cold War Soviet gear shown in one unless it’s a wreck! [;)]
‘Awesome… totally awesome!’ ~ The great Jeff Spicolli
I think we build the same way, toil for months on construction only to see the paint executed in mere days.
I would not say this finish was rushed, more applied when you were on a roll! Once paint hits plastic its hard to stop along the way for WIP’s, the momentum gained towards the finish line has one thinking about the next set at night while doing such in the morning.
The stream scene is perfect and will not go unnoticed on a contest table.
Everything about this diorama is just down-right gorgeous! Paint, weathering, figures, ‘forestry’, water… everything… WOW! Proves that this old Tamiya kit despite its flaws can still build up to a work of art with a little AM and TLC.
