Finished RWD 5 bis

Here are some pics of one of my current projects.

It is a pholish aircraft, the RWD- 5 Bis, a record breaker, beeing the lightest aircraft to cross the atlantic ocean.

the seat:

The first cilinder of the aircooled engine is visible so I made it with sprue and copper wire:

Wind the wire around the sprue and glue with cyano.

Then black and some drybrushing:

I have painted it with LifeColor aluminium, thinned with Future.

Decals are on.

Nice to see these not-often-modeled kits! Looking good so far. [tup]

What kit are you building from? Looks pretty good so far.

That will be the ZTS kit I think.

ZTS kits are usually pretty crude and basic. The PE helps alot.

My boxing is by Mikro 72 but it can also be found as ZTS or Plastyk. I think this kit is the only one around in 1/72.

It is an okay kit, like Airfix or Heller, raised panel lines, fabric effect (I tried to subdue that with a coat of Gunze Mr Surfacer), minor flash, fit was suprisingly good, not much interior detail but enough.

Mikro 72/ZTS/Plastyk has some nice kits, like this one and their RWD-8 but also bad kits like their LWS Capla and some of their glider kits.

Nice work on a rarely modeled Bird.

I have finished the RWD 5bis. The masking came of great, just a few touch ups. There where just some minor details (wheels, gear etc) to paint.

I also polished the engine cover with grafite powder. This plane was a aircraft with doped aluminium fabric. The engine cover was metal so the shine was different then the rest of the plane. This is visible in several photo’s of the aircraft.

Looks great, you should post it on the Wings of Peace Yahoo group. We even have a contest going now that you could enter it in.

Great looking build.

Really like the method for producing the colling fins on the engine cylinder.

It is an easy method and the results in nice. Unfortunatly, it is not that visible in the pics but it is better the the unmodified parts (that is, no engine facing at all).
